What you mean? Is there a Rack Plugin version without the actual DAW??![]()
As a Reason Rack Plugin user and NOT Reason user - have you purchased any REs or refills?

I’ve spent money on RE’s, but only on some of their players and utilities
Loopcracker Suite
Melodic Inverter (which now comes as part of the above)
Pattern Mutator
PSQ-1684
Evolution Sequencer
One exception, I also bought one instrument on spec when it was massively discounted, Aquios X4 Workstation ROM, but it’s pretty horrible so don’t use it and none of the other 3rd party REs really appeal to me except Friktion, but I’m not buying it yet as I want to see if it’s included in the next version of Suite.

The feature I like about it most is it uses pseudo-randomness based on a seed and so anything it comes up with is repeatable provided you store that seed code and you can choose the type of change you want to impose.imrae wrote: Thu Dec 24, 2020 9:01 am How do you like Evolution? Have been thinking of picking that up while it's discounted.
A lot of the random mutation sequencers are equally or more powerful, but don't offer that repeatability.

Where's just the straightforward "yes" option? couldn't vote for this reason.
I've bought 1 RE since using the RRP in another daw.

Friktion sounds really nice from the video's / audio clips I've seen / listened to. I read somewhere about how good the Shakuhachi Flute was in it and man, they weren't wrong.WatchTheGuitar wrote: Thu Dec 24, 2020 7:52 am none of the other 3rd party REs really appeal to me except Friktion, but I’m not buying it yet as I want to see if it’s included in the next version of Suite.

Why have you bougth that particular RE? I'm guessing it fits into the 'exceptional' cathegory.Eclectrophonic wrote: Thu Dec 24, 2020 10:52 pm Where's just the straightforward "yes" option? couldn't vote for this reason.

Also, don't treat this so seriously. The last option was meant for someone that just buys REs like they would VSTs, regardless if the really need another mortgage or not.

The way I basically see it regarding available formats when buying plugins areantic604 wrote: Fri Dec 25, 2020 8:37 am Also, don't treat this so seriously. The last option was meant for someone that just buys REs like they would VSTs, regardless if the really need another mortgage or not.
* RE and either VST2, VST3 or both? Bonus points for vendor
* VTS3 and VST2 both? Great no problem. Preferred Cubase format and can use in Reason. I'm installing both.
* Only VST3? No problem. Preferred in Cubase, can use in Reason with wrapper. Also quite sure Reason will support at some time.
* Only VST2? No problem. Can use in Cubase and Reason
* Only RE? No problem. Preferred in Reason and can also use in Cubase "wrapped in" Reason plugin
In other words plugin format is not in any way a deal breaker if I want the plugin. And I basically use a wrapper if the available formats are limited. I guess I've just mortgaged my house. Damn, I wanted to get rid of them by retirement. Thanks Antic!
It's kind of interesting that the poll even having a slight angle seems to imply that Reason studios made the right move releasing the plugin, even from a "regular Reason users" perspective. If we assume that person has some interest in Reason being a valid DAW platform regarding for example REs and refills. At least that's how I read it. But there's very few voters yet and it's of course from a quite narrow selection of users.

Hmm. My reading so far is that RRP wasn't really the gateway to REs for users of other DAWs that Reason Studios hoped for, but I'm not at all surprised it didn't happen.beltrom wrote: Fri Dec 25, 2020 9:42 amIt's kind of interesting that the poll even having a slight angle seems to imply that Reason studios made the right move releasing the plugin, even from a "regular Reason users" perspective. But I'm happy to see few people tried RRP and then got interested in using Reason DAW

>50% when the poll essentially kept those of us that got it for the plugin but use the daw as well outside (even if I cheated) and like eclectrophonic couldn't really see the yes answer (which is basically the vote where I'm at as well now that you've explained). I wouldn't say that's bad? By the way, I don't think I'm that rare in getting it for the plugin but using the daw as well. I don't think it's typical, but not rare either. Reason is really easy and fun to work with so why wouldn't we be a few that gets aboard to a lesser or higher degree?
I have no idea what Reason studios plans were, I can imagine them being happy to just get a broader user base. There's probably some money in just additional users of the basic plugin/daw.
I DO think/guess Reason have a problem with the RE-format in the long run though, but it's in getting more developers to join up and/or stay. No idea how hard it is to support both RE and vst, but I would assume it's not to trivial at least not to start it up. So why would a developer support it when Reason already have support for VST, given that the plugin don't use specific RE-functionality. Which probably don't come into play if you're not already invested in Reasonland. A developer wouldn't reach any additional users with RE, even if they MIGHT make the plugin more tasty for that group.

Aren't they just a way to modulate the knobs on the front of the GUI? In a DAW like Live, Bitwig or FL you could attach a modulation source (LFO, envelope, etc.) to the knobs and get the same functionality.imrae wrote: Fri Dec 25, 2020 2:17 pm Some plugins don't make a lot of sense without the RE CV inputs, e.g. Noise Engineering stuff.
