Should I be worried about my laptop getting hot?

I would try to dust it anyway. Really, can't stress that enough. Not as a big issue as on desktop PC's, but, still an issue. You WILL get heat issues if the cooling system gets dusty.

You should check if there's no spider hiding beneath the keys.

Best to check among these if you're worried about excess heat - https://www.techradar.com/news/best-laptop-cooling-pad
FWIW, I have the Kootek cooling pad from the link above and even with its 5 fans it does very little to bring down the temperature on my MacBook Pro, and it's too loud to have on while recording/critical listening.

I've had better luck putting my laptop on short rubber furniture floor cups (maybe 1/2") to get extra airflow underneath, and running a pair of quiet USB mini-fans when needed.

I had a HD die on me & I was told its because they have issues from the heat generated by the laptop. I'm not so sure because I replaced the HD and it hung on for quite a few years after that

Oh, good old Macbook... ours would need arctic ice shoveled by polar bears not to explode when browsing the internet. I'll try your method.

Haha, let's build a hermetically sealed device that hits its thermal limits at 12.5% CPU load...what could go wrong?

It's actually the same with my HP and Acer laptops with vents on the bottom - the Kootek fans don't do enough to keep the internal fans from coming on, while the external AC Infinity do.

Well 70 Kelvin would be -200 C and 70 F is only 20 C ....so of course it was Celsius...

Where you driving left or right? Seriously, the fan of my laptop is full of dust. Makes an awful noise. Gets pretty hot. It's a wonder the thing is still running after 9 years of chain smoking and dust gathering. But I put it on blocks and sometimes I shake it

I endeavour to be accurate :D

So is it the case that 70 degrees centiheit is ok then? I spoke to a guy in a laptop shop who said it was a bit high, though I should have mentioned that was under load. Of course you could argue that he wants to sell me a solution. So, kidding aisde, what's the answer?

Clean the fans!

Post

I have two short strips of wood taped to the bottom of my laptops so they always have a bit more space between them and surfaces.....and I clean the fans. The oldest is a Frankenstein's monster that by all rights should be dead. It's housebound because I removed the battery in hopes of helping to keep it cooler

Does removing the battery help? I only use mine plugged in anyway, so a desktop would be a better solution

You know,I'm not really sure but I figured it would be a way for poor lappy to get a little more cross breeze out the back
