ST 2 LE and single instance limitation too limited!!!

Is it possible to "disable" or "turn off" a plugin in SONAR? Maybe that way you could have two projects open, but only have one instance of ST2LE active at once?
Do you have another multitimbral softsynth that's easy to set up? Maybe you could replace ST2LE with another softsynth for the project that you're borrowing material from - that way you'd still be able to hear the MIDI (although with different sounds).
I don't use SONAR, so I don't know how well any of these ideas would work. I'm just trying to help.
Forever,
Kim.

Because Sonar uses an MDI model, you don't need to open multiple instances of it to have multiple songs open. You can have multiple songs open inside Sonar. In fact, Sonar prevents multiple instances of itself, and I'm guessing it has to do with avoiding issues with unshareable MIDI ports/soundcards, etc, so it's easier to do everything from within one instance.asseca wrote:The trick I mentioned only works with seperate programs linked via MIDI. Except ST2 LE breaks that perfectly valid, useable functionality.
The only way to enable a new song to work while a previous one is open is to completely remove ST2 LE from the previous one. Just disabling it doesn't work. And fiddling with switching softsynths in an older song is just too time-consuming, and in that case I'd rather just close the song I'm working on and load the older one, and do it that way. Hmm,makes sense,of course. If I have time,I'll try that sometime later today.Have you actually done this,or have I not read your previous posts correctly? This is strictly a matter of curiosity to me,but possibly a big help to BitFlipper or anyone else feeling the one instance limit as real problem,I hope.asseca wrote:The trick I mentioned only works with seperate programs linked via MIDI. Thanks for the help but in this case it certainly won't help me. Sonar does only allow one instance of itself (usually not a problem, since it can have multiple songs open), and I am certainly not going to buy a second host to work around this limitation in ST2 LE. But again, I appreciate the effort to find a workaround.Bassballjg wrote:Hmm,makes sense,of course. My solution would be to either buy Sonic Station and use the samples in Kontakt (my original plan), or upgrade to ST2 XL. Both puts me WAY over the initial amount I wanted to spend.

What I meant is open up Chainer (free download but doesn't save its own presets in demo mode,$60 to register)or Energy XT (Free download can save but not recall presets of its settings in demo mode,$40 to register) in their standalone modes, then intantiate ST2LE in the host, and link them via midi ox in another Sonar song.On the other hand, such a solution may be too complicated to be worthwhile.BitFlipper wrote:Thanks for the help but in this case it certainly won't help me. In any case,by all means get Sonic Station as a library for Kontakt, since that was your original plan.Perhaps you can upgrade to the full version of Sampletank someday. It's too bad that you need to spend so much more than you had planned, but in the end,you will have two excellent instruments.
I'm very sorry that you are having this trouble.I have seen your issue as an interesting intellectual problem,so some of the things that asseca has said have gotten me thinking.I hope that you haven't had a problem with my thinking out loud, and I truly do wish you well in your musical endeavors.

Thanks everyone for coming up with some nice suggestions. My problem is not really that big, it's more of an annoyance, and nothing I can't live with. OK, so I need to close my current song if I want to go back to an old song and steal a bassline or a great effects chain or something. Makes it a bit more of a hassle but it's not that bad I guess.
I'll just have to justify to the misses that I *need* to upgrade, although I was hoping to go for AutoTune next....

BitFlipper,
Sorry that the tips from other users did not work out for you.
Bassballjg,
Yes, I had 2x energyXT each with ST2LE and 1x Chainer totalling 3 ST2LE's, all 3 at the same time visible on the screen and playing...

Wow, anybody know a way around this for GarageBand? Unfortunately I recommended the group buy to a non-musician friend that was just trying to put together accompanyment for his acoustic player-piano. He's on the mac and uses garageband as his sequencer which doesn't allow channel selection which means he is basically limited to one accompanying instrument. Crap. Any suggestions? thx

I suggest getting the upgrade to ST2XL which will also give him 8 more discs of sounds to use in Garageband anyway. Plus, there are a lot of other benefits. If he can afford a Mac then he can afford the upgrade.chrisby wrote:Wow, anybody know a way around this for GarageBand? I thought one instance would be a limitation, but it doesn't seem to be too limiting in my case.
I never have more than one project open at a time, and in the rare case I need more than 16 channels, I can just bounce a track or two to audio and use the channels for something else.
The aspect I hate about ST2 LE is the limit of one effect. I think it's kind of false advertising to say 2 effects, since the first is ALWAYS EQ/Comp. If I don't want to EQ the track, I'm limited to one effect. With such a large palette of effects, I find this extremely annoying.

Especially when ST2 free can load the same fx presets as XL..Arglebargle wrote: The aspect I hate about ST2 LE is the limit of one effect. The thing to remember though, is that ST2LE is not designed to be a workstation. It's a bundled sample player instrument that comes with smaller libraries. It's kinda in the same league as the NI Kompakt/Intakt engine that EastWest are using, or USB that Plugsound are using.
Forever,
Kim.
