f**k reason studio- hope this decision will ruin them

Post

Well, there's nothing stopping them from ending the subscription "experiment" in a year if revenue goes down...

Doesn't really change anything for current owners, business as usual. And they didn't do anything yet that cannot be undone in a year (or two).
Intro is gone so new users will subscribe, Suite is gone so there's no competition for subscription. From a business perspective it makes sense.
Suite was an experiment from the start anyway. Had hoped they would continue it so I could get the new RE's cheaper, but there were no guarantees. Would be nice gesture if they'd offer existing users an upgrade to a higher version in a sale.

Also Presonus has a subscription. Don't hear many people complaining about that.

Where are you reading this??? Stop spreading lies :dog:

Upgrade from 11 Standard or 11 Suite -> 12 will be the same cost, so no "extra money"

Those upgraing 11 Suite -> 12 will keep their additional REs (which is all the Suite ever was), so how is it downgraded?

And you can still use them, get new REs, etc. You only won't be able to upgrade to Reason 12 Intro, but you probably wouldn't anyway.

It was more of an observation that somebody in the same position will no longer have an attractive entry-point.

Except just a week or two ago they announced that 2020 was the most successful year in Reason's entire history. So, no, they are not toast.
Well they did give away Reason Lite for free several times last year. This would make it look like Reason got a lot of new users (so "successful"), even if many of them only registered the freebie. This was probably one of the goals with that giveaway. Keep in mind that those kinds of announcements are written primarily for the benefit of investors and stockholders, and may contain cherry picked data.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Such mediocrity. They can't even configure Django properly, so Reason+ registration is broken. This is a total n00b error.

''If I already use Reason, can I keep using my license?''

''Sure! You bought it, it is yours. And we will keep developing Reason and selling licenses in our shop if you prefer to own instead of subscribe.''

I can see most of the majors (Ableton, NI etc) going this way as an 'option' to get a cheaper cost of entry for people who want to rent, no problem with choice as long as you can still buy a perpetual licence if you prefer.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Yes, I'm also pretty sure that this will be the standard everywhere pretty soon. Fine for me.

The Difference is that Presonus subscription is rent to own which Reason studios does not have.

FYI - For Reason Suite 11 owners, a Reason+ sub is available for $100 a year. I assume that is just for the first year.

Also, they don't make you give them a credit card for the one month trial.

Eeh, I'm pretty sure Blaster is not talking about the Splice rent-to-own, rather the PreSonus Sphere, which is definitely not rent-to-own. It's actually very much similar to what Reason Studios is offering.

Bitwig's annual support plan is €179 (€15 p month), but I've seen discounts, if I remember well. Like €139 or so.

I think €10-15 p months is the margin for me. Just an average customer who usually upgrades once per so many years. €20 p month is like you have to purchase a new DAW on an annual basis.

I agree, paying €240 per year is a bit too much in my opinon. I know it's 50% off the first year, if you own a Reason license already, so it feels like they are just copying PreSonus Sphere tbh. Though Sphere is only like €15 per month?

Sure, with Reason+ you'll get all Rack Extensions Reason Studios have made, and will make, and PreSonus hasn't really made many plugins. Comparing the content like sounds and patches that are released regularly, I believe Sphere is the winner, and you'll also get Notion with Sphere. Maybe Reason Studios at least should throw in ReCycle in the mix, and start developing it again. That would give a little extra at least.

But as usual, Reason Studios don't like the most loyal customers very much, since those already owning all, or most, Rack Extensions made by them won't be given any benefits.
