I found an inexpensive portable turntable called the PT01 from Numark. The website says that it has a "built-in phono preamp" as well as "lineout for recording".
Does this mean that I can plug this thing right into my MobilePre's line in? If so, that might be a decent solution at $99.

It sounds like that's exactly what it'll do.
Keep in mind that different turntables will produce different quality... there's a whole sub-culture just as obsessive as the Analog Synth guys.
However, for general purposes, that sounds like a perfect solution.

I guess it depends on whether or not you talk to the audiophiles. Shhhh... don't let them know!
I can tell you this: you'll get very good results. A CD is 16-bit, and it sounds just fine to my ears. If your soundcard is an SB Live, they actually have a pretty quiet line-in. The mic input is shit, but that's because it's just for web conferencing and stuff like that. The line-in will give you good enough quality.

which does quite a good job of getting rid of crackle although it isn't exactly great but is really easy to use?
