I sometimes hear short wave radio.
Compared with Spotify it's the real analogue experience

I don't think the cd is completely dead yet. I still have a quite extensive cd collection, and so do some of my friends. Then there's people who have a cd player in their car.

Lots of CDs here, too - collecting dust though.
And yes, luckily you still can get cd players for cars (many newer don't have the option any more, but have a "camera" :dog: ) - so we found one for the wife recently. Still worth making mixes for it so hopefully this medium will stay alive.

I have one too. I never use it though. Usually, I plug in my Bluetooth dongle into the audio jack, and play music from my smartphone. Bought a mounting for that, so I even have navigation, without paying extra. :)

I thought I'd need to find a new way to change directories on the command line...whew :hihi:

Back OT...I listened to 2 CDs in my car and 5 on my 5-disc changer at home this week.

Me too, but i'm old-fashioned. I have heard that cloud subscriptions are better for the environment than physical media but i don't know it's true.

Well, it's true, especially if you factor in the trips to the music store (RIP music store as well). So it's not about the plastics really, but distribution of the CDs (plus the environmental footprint of the production, distribution and disposal of the CD player of course).

Well, if you already have the CD player and happen to be downtown close to the music store, then sure... But I'd say there are many things we do that leave a far greater carbon footprint than CDs do.

When it comes to digital media, it's not so much streaming that is energy-intensive, but computing, typically analysing user doings (who talks to whom online, what's your interests etc). And since we're talking audio only (not video), the streamed content is not large, basically inconsequential in comparison.

It's kind of devastating my mood that everybody muses about this ultra cool and cold and perfect CD and nobody misses the
cassette tapes!
Shame on you!

That's just because everybody already completely forgot about it.

I wish... :)

Seems most of the things I look at on Bandcamp have a cassette release too.
