OK to Use Powered USB Port on Laptop for Keyboard Controller?

This is an "always-on" USB port. You can connect a device to charge it with the laptop battery even if the computer is "off/sleep/hibernate/whatever". Basically it lets you use your $2000 laptop as a very heavy and cumbersome $20 battery pack.
