CubaseSX not as difficult as I thought

As someone persisting with Logic 5.5.1 mostly, despite owning SX, what I find most irritating about the Mixer in SX 2.2 is that I can only see Sends or Inserts on the channel at one time.
I would prefer to be see some combination of inserts and sends - why the F%$# can't they offer this as an option?
The "sends" view wastes all this vertical space with the slider for send level which doesn't even give a numerical readout. And really - do I need to see 8 sends?
Logic's design approach is smart in having the send knob off to the right taking up no vertical space on the mixer slot.
Being able to see and adjust the two or three (at most) sends I might be using in the same view as the inserts would be so much better. For example, if I am tweaking a snare sound - I might have that channel soloed and the sound is a combination of the source samples, the Eq and compressor inserts and the reverb I am sending it to - I want to be able to tweak compression and Eq at the same time as I adjust the reverb send.
I prefer to do this in the mixer not in the Project window and then move on to the kick and the hats etc and do the same. The only reason I can't is the wasteful use of space in the mixer. Cold C got it right about the waste of screen real estate.
One workaround is to have two mixers with the different views preset and maybe SX3 with the new screen layouts will make this more workable but I prefer to work with Mixer in one Monitor and Project in the other.
Regards,
Eg

No, it's like getting into a new car. Everything is 'pretty much' the same between hosts. Yes it takes a bit of digging, but even picking up Sonar from scratch, I could start to write within a few minutes. These programs are NOT that counter-intuitive if you're already well versed in one.klagga wrote:"I´m so f*cking talented that I never have to read any manuals."
Well, how impressive.

You can.. they have a small generic view of Send levels, EQ, and inserts..egbert wrote: I would prefer to be see some combination of inserts and sends - why the F%$# can't they offer this as an option?Regards,

Yeah - but it is crippled. You can turn an instert, Eq or Send on or off but you cannot adjust the level of the send or launch the editor of an insert. You have to leave this view to do anything - dumb.georgelegeriii wrote:You can.. they have a small generic view of Send levels, EQ, and inserts..egbert wrote: I would prefer to be see some combination of inserts and sends - why the F%$# can't they offer this as an option?Regards,

In Logic - as you know well George - you can do both.
Same goes for host Eq but I rarely use them.

i´ve been using Cubase from the beggining without having to barely look at manual .
i stick to the track view untill i got to mixing so i don´t find it over cluttered unless some midi editing is about to be done .
on the box however they recommend a dual monitor setup wich i don´t have ,i spent my money easely on another piece of hardware first but i´m looking forward this kind of setup cause it seems to accelerate the tasks a lot.
i´m glad i use Cubase.
my SX3 copy was already ordered and i trust things to get better.
i don´t know rigth now how the other sequencers behave but when SX1 came out i felt sorry for the guys who had to use other soft ,they all looked and felt unfinished, buggy ...a waste of time and money.
but i concur to the idea that they do all the same ,it´s up to the user to take advantage from the tools it has.
SX just looks and feels like it was custom built to me ,that´s what make me feel so excited about it ,that´s some kind of magic going on under the hood or at least some kind of empathy bettwen I and Steinberg Team that makes me wonder.

sure. my thoughts exactly. since sx era cubase users somewhat act like paying bugfix-reporters (actually pissed-off and therefore more efficient & motivated in *rambling-reporting*) for nuendo code cleanup

I don't like the GUI at all, it's messy and unclear. Also there is two things tha makes me explode from anger:
1) The hair cross tool that was present in Cubase 5 is no more. If you don't remember: a big thin hair cross showed up every time you moved a "box" allowing you to see on the ruler where you put the box.
2) The ruler resolution is too poor when you zoom out. In Cubase 5 the ruler had a mark for every beginning bar. In SX you a mark for every second or fourth bar (I think) depending on the zoom level which is just annoyingly stupid.
Also I would appreciate better grid possibilities in Cubase SX. These were better in Cubase SX.
Whats bothering me the most in Cubase SX 2 is the feeling that everything is floating around in a big mess.

What!? No crosshairs - still no drag'n'drop of midi parts etc...
I haven't got around to missing those bits yet. Oh ****! I totally agree with the GUI being a pile of messy poo, but so far I'm still getting used to all of the bonus features. Now I'm starting to find out all of the useful bits they left behind in VST5...
Please don't tell me they still haven't brought back multi-lane editing in audio clips? I haven't got that far yet. Oh what have I done? VST5 is starting to look very attractive again.
At least some of the shortcuts are still the same though. I was so relieved that 1 and 2 are still L and R goto loop markers. Not sure about all that crap with 0 being return to previous start position though...what was wrong with 0 = return to L marker?
Ho hum...I just need to concentrate on the positive. I can do it, I know I can

Phew! After a few days boggling my mind with it, I've discovered multi-lane editing is back in Cubase.
Still can't find how to "export segment" though...it seems like everything is non-destructive. All I want to do is shorten some clips and I have to read 300 pages of manual that doesn't tell me how not to do it

You want to make a multi lane edit perm, or just an edit perm? There is an option on the right click menu that makes the change perm.... the name of it is slipping my mind.... It's not REAL opbvious what it is, but once you know what it is. I'm not at home to check, sorry.kritikon wrote:Phew!
