is there one to turn george formby in to tom waits?
George Formby has been dead for over 60 years - you have to resurrect him first. Nothing on youtube but I think there's a subreddit for that https://www.reddit.com/r/resurrectGeorgeFormby

I have totally opposite experience. Melodyne is fine to correct some minor issues in 1-2 semitone range. And it is the only one with zero latency and perfect resizable easy to use GUi. However there is no way to use Melodyne as creative tool when I need to completely change the harmonies of the vocal without making vocal sounds completely crapy. Here Waves Tune is the best by a huge margin. The GUI of Waves Tune is another story as working with it is a pain. Waves also introduces a ton of latency.

Any opinion regarding ReaPitch vs let's say Melodyne for more creative sound design?

i was thinking more, change my voice to something a bit "cooler". but had i said "my voice" there is no starting position for that tutorial to be perfect!

ergo, using an example that sounds like me, gives a context for said tutorial.

i tried the smoking for years, just got more nasal not gravelly.

Yeah, if you want subtle corrections of vocals then Melodyne is the best choice.

If you want creative, drastic changes, then ReaPitch is fantastic. Melodyne, on
the other hand, is not designed for drastic changes - and is not suitable for them.

But: For such drastic pitch changes there are a lot of freeware pitch shifters that
are pretty good (Nix-shifta, Kerovee, ...) . Just go on a search!

Oh wow,
was just curious how much i was missing out, as i always thought that Melodyne was supposed to be leaps and bounds above everything else when it comes to best pitch corrections/alterations possible, even at extreme settings

I would say that everything is better than Melodyne at extreme settings

Now i'm flabberghasted - but also glad i never bit the bullet.
Maybe it was just the german press as it's a german company, but since back then i always got the impressions from those reviews that you could basically bend anything into anything with much better results than the whole competition

Melodyne can do quite decent harmonization from a lead vocal track.
I also use it on bass guitar.
Occasionally, I've nailed a solo, only to playback and hear one string out of tune. Melodyne fixed that, too.
I could do with whatever least version does polyphony rather than Studio. It's overkill for my needs, but…I bought the first version, and have updated along the same path.

This is helpful, thanks! But could you edit the original post to note which versions of each plug-in you tested? I know Melodyne (which I got for free with Sonar) claims to improve their algorhithms and add features with each version, and Waves (which I'm considering for free with another $29 purchase)...well, they seem to just repackage older effects (and their associated algorhithms) into slightly newer interfaces (I'm looking at you, Waves v12).

Very good pitch correction is included in Reason. I own light version and use that one for pitch corr processing. Then arrive back to Ableton and use ptocessed track in project

I'm learning about this automatic and off-line tuning VSTs.

Do y'all recommend Antares' Auto-Tune and Slate Digital's MetaTune?

This comparison is awesome, so just wondering now that these two are missing!
