Is it just me or is Cubase Direct Offline Processing entirely borked?

Geezus, just reading this thread hurts my head. :-/ I bought Cubase Pro 12 using a cross-grade when it was 40% off (lucky for me). Just tried to use DOP and... WTF? I used Adobe Audition CS6 back in 2012 and it's clip FX capabilities were AWESOME a decade ago. It was SO simple, logical, intuitive, and easy. And I never had any of these kinds of problems. They have an Effects Rack where you can select between Track FX and Clip FX (similar to Cubase's Insert inspect). Select any clip and add FXs, just like you do with Tracks, and enable/disable them directly in the Rack (inspector) without having to open a dialog. And they are all LIVE. Under the hood, Audition creates a new clip that it plays to ultimately save processing, but the changes you make are done in real time. I've found learning Cubase to be a challenge as I find it lacks any semblance of being intuitive. And the UI/UX... ugh. I keep trying to love Cubase. It's hard.
