Nope. You wont find many metal guitarists use a strat. In the 80's yes. The last 30 years? I know guitarists (and bassists) all have our pet favorites, but on a grand scale, the Strat seems (to me) to be the most ubiquitously represented guitar model across virtually every style of guitar-based music.

Isn't that what an HSS is???
Ohhhh, I don't really follow metal, so duly noted!Daimonicon wrote: Fri Aug 13, 2021 8:04 pmNope. You wont find many metal guitarists use a strat. In the 80's yes. The last 30 years? All of my electric guitars are hybrids and they are very versatile...
One piece mahogany Tele type bodies, with Warmoth Fatback or Boat necks (maple necks, ebony fingerboards,1 3/4" nuts and stainless steel frets),hardtail bridges with GraphTech saddles,DiMarzio low powered humbuckers with coil splits,3 way toggle switches and tone and volume controls...
Light tung oil finish on the necks and the bodies...
Pretty much right in the middle between and F and a G and they sound rather toneful

this is of course true, but s/he said s/he owns a strat, so i assumed s/he was looking for something else
id say a tele is pretty versatile too, depending on which one model, but as s/he specified "him buckets", i figured double (or triple) buckers would be the way to go
who knows? hard to suggest guitars really, unless theres a specific request, the more vague the request the easier to get every guitar ever made suggested

Oh, well, if it's "him buckets", then there's only one obvious choice: Paul Reed Smith. He's all man (or, so we've been led to believe)vurt wrote: Fri Aug 13, 2021 8:27 pm but as s/he specified "him buckets", i figured double (or triple) buckers would be the way to go![]()
Anyway, I'll go back to my "bassment" and leave you geetarists alone now.

The Noodlist wrote: Sat Mar 09, 2019 4:35 pm I've often thought of a custom wiring with 2 circuits on one guitar, switchable via a pull/push tone pot.
Four SC sized PUP's fitted in the spaces for 2 HB's, if that makes sense.
One circuit with stacked PAF, with series/parallel spilts via 2 volume pots with pull/push.
Second circuit with 2 SC's 2 P90's, switch to this circuit via tone pot push/pull.
Is this possible?
2 guitars in 1.

I prefer HSH to HSS just because I like that neck HB sound. You might have that covered with your baritone though?

Get a Schecter if money is an issue. Otherwise get a ESP Horizon.

my baritone has two prails and a jb jr humbucker in the middle...I got humbuckers, single coil (rails), soapbar...it also has an artec 5 way pre amp in it but one of these days I'm gonna build another stratoblaster clone and swap itresynthesis wrote: Fri Aug 13, 2021 9:37 pm I prefer HSH to HSS just because I like that neck HB sound. My baritone started out a tele, really it was a squire tele body I used as a breadboard for experimenting with electronics...at the end of the day I kinda went with all of the above, the idea being as versatile as possible, kinda the swiss army knife of baritones

Musicman used to have an HSH model with a Dimarzio Bluesbucker in the neck and PAF Pro in the bridge (I don't remember the middle pickup but pretty much anything should do). That's a great configuration, you get most of the sounds you'd want and they're well balanced. The Bluesbucker sounds like a legit single coil when split so you can get those great neck+middle strat tones without compromise.
Yngwie used to use a Dimarzio HS-3 in the bridge and HS-4's in the neck and middle. The HS-3 is a great alternative to HSS, it has a thicker tone than a standard strat pickup but doesn't sound like a completely different guitar like a humbucker does. It's great for leads. The thing I hate about HSS is there is no EQ setting that sounds right for all positions (HSH has this problem, too, but at least the neck and bridge are balanced).

Interesting! You've inspired me to look closer at the Dimarzio range. My "one day" Warmoth dream build is now considering a Fred + Bluesbucker combination. If you like offset guitars then have a look at the Revelations (if you can find them!). These ones have coil-taps and also the ATN filter circuit which quite drastically alters the sound. I've got the 6 string bass (in Fiesta Red) and the 12 string of theirs and they're great guitars.

Warmoth is awesome. We’ve ordered over 100 bodies and necks from them (I use their necks on our Tone Bakery guitars). I recommend ordering from their available stock, that way you can choose the weight and grain.imrae wrote: Sat Aug 14, 2021 10:44 am Interesting! I'm all Ibanez on this one.
From my collection I would say the most versatile is my JEM - maybe even my JS1 but the neck is not as fast as the JEMs and you don't get them with the middle SC any more.
If you don't want to spend that money you could also go for a Japan RG and swap the PUs.
