It does. So?

The free basics is designed for what the OP is asking for, a big playable tutti, load it and go

Just asking a question to confirm the requirement -- not second-guessing your suggestion.

I wasn't imputing anything by "So?". Now I know why you asked.

Post

it's the same key as Steinberg, only branded differently

I've seen a FAQ which suggest VSL has to be a hardware dongle rather than a soft elicenser? Is that true? If so, I would avoid no matter how good, which seems a shame. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

Garritan is interesting... it started all this thinking off. I've had it since it was released - can't resell it - and I like the ideas but the sound leaves me cold. Plus, on my new controller the aftertouch is always triggering an awful whole-orchestra vibrato, and I can't seem to be able to turn that off in the Aria engine.
Off-topic, but if you do a search in the Programs folder for cc129, that's channel aftertouch (and cc130 is polyphonic aftertouch, but that's probably not what controllers send). Post the lines that include that, and I can probably tell you how to make it do nothing. I don't have GPO installed on my new desktop, but I could dig out my old tablet which does have GPO5 on it.

It has to be the physical key. A whole universe of excellence is not available to you because of this? Yeah, that is a shame.

(they're actually moving to iLok and it won't require a dongle, but I wanted to fug wit you a bit first)

I know it seems petty... I have iLok and Steinberg software licence managers to hand, and a recess wall-mounted iMac with no spare USB ports... and a plan to move to the TB/USBc only iMac 24" soon enough. I'm not anti-dongle at all - in fact I think I have an old Reaktor one in a drawer somewhere - but I have different requirements these days!

I bought a pretty good hub last year. I don't want more USB keys either. VSL is worth it. The new system will be the usual iLok on the local machine afaik. I have an iLok account and a few things on it, so ok. It's the same key as Cubase for me, but they're doing something else as well (forcing VSL to do theirs).

I was one of the first people to buy GPO back in '03. The harps are pretty good, everything else needs too much help to be much of an orchestra. I don't imagine whatever it is now is a lot different because of the intent, starter edition.

The last thing I did with it was Cello Soloist 2 back in '09, I got it sounding pretty good with EQ and an exciter. It has this same rate of vibrato, just the one per instrument which can get really old, but it could be massaged into an illusion of change with CC1 vs velocity there.

I have Garritan Harps on Aria (SFZ), they're as good as it gets except maybe for VSL, and I have both of theirs now.

I just bought Miroslav Philharmonik 2 CE, and am curious how bad people think it is, compared to state-of-the-art. leo007 was selling it for $45, and I wanted to get in on the IK Group Buy.

Heh
I don't think much of it, myself.
