I have some stuff that sounds really good - Eventide UltraReverb, the Valhalla stuff, Replika XT, but when you actually hear a multi-band reverb @ 96k on the H8000FW, it truly is something magnificent. Perhaps this is due to a mediocre audio interface, but I also do algorithm development, so the hardware is fun, too.

The computer is a Macbook Pro w/Intel i9 and 64GB. I suspect that's sufficient for a beginner like me?

I'm using Reaper. It seemed like a decent entry-level DAW for a decent price, but I will look into Pipeline XT functionality and see if it's worth switching. I actually like Reaper quite a bit, having also tried Logic and Ableton.
Hydroquebec? Arent they the ones we just pulled the plug on? I'm in Maine :hihi:

Welcome btw, I'm just funnin yah :)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

reaper is king until you sync several instances on several machines. It is falling short in that regard. It's horrible at syncing. Great at Vsti's in a single instance tho.

Not to me. It's just reverb, it makes very little difference beyond a certain point. 20 years ago I'd have absolutely preferred a good hardware unit but these days it's a waste of time, effort and money. I mostly just use the reverb in Studio One, it sounds great. If I need something a bit out of the box, I have Shimmerverb and some freebie Valhalla thing.

Reverb seems to be the only, and probably most important affect on a synth. Everyone just turns the affects off and puts their own on anyways tho. Not sure why synth makers put so much effort into the affects if people just choose outboard ones anyway.

Some synth reverbs are very good tho. They have been worked, and coded right to avoid aliasing. some synths' reverb is better than their synthesis, not that it matters. You will just turn it off and put your own reverb plugin on it so that you can say it's yours, even if it's not as good. It's more important that you LOOK like you know.
