Thank you, yes Palestrina is really awesome.

Now we could be different and still united under God. It is right into the heart of the renaissance and the birth of enlightenment and individualism.
A beautiful interpretation - and historically embedded in the transition
from one epoch to the next, to the Renaissance. Generally speaking, one could
also say that polyphony stands for ultimately uniting opposing positions on a
common basis. This could also be used to connect to current events.

From a purely musical point of view, it always makes sense for me to make
an instrumental more interesting through polyphony, so that you tend to listen
to a song more than once. Maybe ...

Yes, and if we should recognize other histories than the Western, Palestrina would not be the point of origin, but native cultures like the Aka pygmees. Here the voices are improvised within polyphonic and polyrhythmic principles of local traditions. Very complex and yet united in an ongoing flow. Four voiced. Multitudes of variations, harmonies, and feels that travel in the same direction. Seems like we are far behind in the West, cf. your reference to recent events.

You ask whether the song is still accessible for a "normal" listener. I would have thought so, but I spend a disproportionate amount of time listening to Zappa, so I may not be the best judge in this instance.

Good work :)
Haja, that's probably true: If you're used to Zappa, you can
hardly be frightened by too many notes or a few dissonances. :hihi:

Thank you for listening!

There are some really nice musical ideas here, such as when the cello voice comes in and it hits the B♭ over G minor.

But the instrumentation sounds quite terrible. Like it was made on a Casio. I get that maybe that's what you're going for, but I think it's a bit too twee and needlessly limits the appeal. It could be quite good on "real" instruments played with a human feel.

I don't think it's too complex at all, but some parts seem a bit aimless, such as some of the more indulgent moments during the hard panned piano/electric piano duet.

@Jamcat: Thank you Jamcat for your close listening and your honest
assessment!

"twee" and a bit "casio-like" - yes, these are the weaknesses
that really can turn something off in this song.

However, "sweet polyphonic" is also on the cutting edge between
acoustically played and arranged in a pop manner. It is always the
question of what the listener expects ...

In any case - in the next change we will consider to go in this
direction: playing the piano and e-piano by hand - even if that,
including miking, etc., is considerably more laborious. However,
this project will not happen until June or July of this year.

I re-recorded the main piano part on the far left of the pan. I think it sounds
a bit more natural and dynamic now:
