My drum programming in piano roll is all about velocity. I don't get the sense of all at 100 velocity or whatever at all.
A realistic hihat is going to have a lot of layers.
I remember one in Evil Joe drums for BFD2, 4GB of samples. As well as early offerings in the platform of say a snare that has to use RR because there's one thing it even does, at any velocity. "Anti-machine gun" in preferences btw.

I prefer both, but having a large range of velocities can get cool with a bit of midi randomization. I find that gives me more realistic sounds than having a large rr cycle.
