Did you consider the Monologue of the logue-family, since it seems you are not mainly after a polyphonic synth?
Another thing that seems off, the Minilogue XD goes for around 500€ here. Regular one with keys, not desktop version. I just changed Thomann to US and it gives me $499 + shipping. Might be worth checking out.

Not really looked at the Monologue - I thought that was a tiny cut down thing and more like the straight Minilogue but one voice? And from memory it's really small - only has 1 and a bit octaves or something? I'm happy enough with 3, but 1 and a bit seems...not worth having.
I generally don't consider shopping around overseas - unless it's maybe Aussie. Getting anything shipped to NZ gets pretty expensive pretty quickly. Any savings get nullified.

Prologue 8 is $1780 where you are? That's insane... here in Canada they started out around $1400 ($2100 for the 16 voice). Comparatively the Minilogue XD is $900 new, so when I saw a Prologue 8 on sale for $1099, I did not hesitate to go for it. It is more or less an expanded version of the XD, and the build quality is excellent imo. That being said, as much as I love the Prologue 8, I don't think it's worth almost twice as much as the XD.
I think it sounds like you've mostly made up your mind, and based on pricing in your area, it's probably the smart choice to go with the XD. And like you said, you'll save enough for a decent monosynth, which is worth a lot (love the Behringer Cat, very useful in many situations and can get you a decent 101 sounding bass pretty easily).

NZD...and there's always a hefty premium for most things here on top of exchange rates. Equivalent to $1545 in Canadian $$s and that's with a $500 sale price discount. See what I mean about hefty premiums? But the weird thing is the XD keys is $1050, not that much more. Pricing here is just silly. I can buy Behringer at equivalent prices to US/Europe etc. Sequential seems to cost at least $1000 more - I've seen a Pro3 at $4400
. Korg - all over the place. Seems like Minilogues are not far off the rest of the world pricing but I'd imagine a Prologue 16-voice would cost something similar to a mortgage here.

Prologue’s had some big price drops in the US, whereas Minilogue prices have actually gone up. Maybe NZ never adjusted.

Yeah...highly likely that the new price for the 8 voice is the real price drop but advertised as a "sale" to get eejits like me interested. I might wait around a little to see if XDs get some kind of price drop...I can still get a Monopoly in the meantime just to keep me occupied.

Good that they take it off their lists if they don't have stock....brownie points to Thoman. There are pretty well only 2 major suppliers for keyboardy things in NZ and one of them in particular has a huge list of stuff for sale....over 50% of which have no stock. i.e. not for sale. Very exasperating. I'd rather know what they actually have in their stock to sell to me rather than what I would like but cannot possibly get.

I 'm pretty sure I'll go for the Minilogue XD instead of the Prologue. Just now bought a Monopoly, then I'll get an XD next. Looks like the XD is a prologue but smaller & cheaper keys and 4 fewer voices. For $700 I figure that's a very good compromise. Ultimately, I don't need 8 voices. I was watching one of the MinilogueXD demos where they spend a bit of time on the filters and the drive - ooooooh, very characterful.
It made me very moist.
Korg always were one of my favourite companies for filters...still doing good stuff.

Prologue allow to layer 2 presets main/sub and play with 4 voices.kritikon wrote: Fri Apr 08, 2022 12:49 am I 'm pretty sure I'll go for the Minilogue XD instead of the Prologue. Really nice preview browsing those to layer with and finding what really works.
And it has full size keys meaning backbone playing still make you reach without thinking.
But truth is that Prologue is not longer in production and removed from Korg main page Keyboard/Synthesizers. So if campaign could get killer deals.
But for sure Minilogue XD is killer bang for buck.
Still having Polybrute I spend a lot of time with Prologue-8, really get carried away for hours just sitting down with it.
As in production Prologue was pride of Korg for analog synthesizers they were on top listed among keyboards and synthesizers. Now it down below just above software. So waiting Korg are to offer a new flagship analog.

I had the original Minilogue then I bought the Prologue 8 and finally got the Minilogue XD
my personal opinion is that xd is the best all arounder, I liked those 2 but sound wise I ended up keeping the xd and I never look back, hope this helps

It does, thanks. XD is now No.1 on my next-to-buy list. Probably will get one end of May or thereabouts. I've been bitten before by buying things cheaper and regretting afterwards that I didn't spend up a bit more, so an XD seems much more than a straight Minilogue and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't use the extras that a Prologue gives. I don't play live so don't need the layer split, don't need 8 voices for playing (though nice for unison for sure), and TBH the fancy keys on it are wasted on a Philistine like me...I actually prefer crappy keys. The Prologue16 extra analogue bass compressor thingy sounds nice but really - that's fluff IMO. If you can't get decent bass out of a decent analogue without onboard FX gizmos...there's something wrong.
I'm surprised if Korg stopped making Prologues already...they've not been out for that long? But if they have, maybe they're working on another analogue - might be interesting. Korg certainly seem to be churning them out recently.

Do you think the XD sounds better than the Prologue? How are they different sound-wise?Poly86 wrote: Mon Apr 11, 2022 7:01 am I had the original Minilogue then I bought the Prologue 8 and finally got the Minilogue XD
