Well, its just another tool in the belt. Its good to know how to do it with M/S enabled EQ. Go to S, highpass until sounds good. Thats it.

I do not use Ableton as I am on Cubase pro 12 and I am trying to recreate what the Ableton Utility does in Cubase.

For those who do not know, Abletons Utility allows a signal thats fed into it to be manipulated so that everything below a user set frequency (in my case 127 Hz) to be in mono while everything about is kept in stereo.

Yes and it has been told here how to achieve that with M/S EQ, because thats what Utility does. Yeah I use it over EQ8 because of few less clicks

I think it does not use "brickwall 96dB" highpass still, somewhere between 12dB - 24dB - havent measured. If needing steeper slope I use EQ8 in M/S mode.. rarely do.

did you try any of the simple plug ins that were suggested?

Ok, here's a test for you.

Select a synth patch with a sine wave. Basic filteredtriangle waveform will do as well. Pan it hard left. Play chromatic notes down from middle C down a few octaves.

Now experiment with the various options.

What is better, more pleasant or natural?
When it gradually moves to the centre, or when it suddenly is centred?
