When it comes to distortion, especially so for hard clipping, the quality (and to a certain extent characteristics) of the oversampling filters is quite literally everything.crickey13 wrote: Mon Apr 04, 2022 5:12 pm+1Ploki wrote: Mon Apr 04, 2022 4:52 pm It's no compromise but still has the lowest CPU usage, and sounds absolutely wonderful.
Roll-off soft clip to 50ish to get (oversampled) inflator style harmonics or keep it hard to have clean shaven peaks to feed the limiters. wonderful
I wonder why it sounds so smooth, it's probably due to the quality SRC.
In fact, one can make the case that the quality of SRC is even more important than the actual oversampling factor, because even though increasing the oversampling factor will give you more bandwidth before aliasing, it's ultimately the SRC filters that are responsible for taking advantage of this bandwidth and as soon as those filters become the limiting factor, increasing the oversampling factor further does basically nothing for you.
Now, I have not actually tried this particular plugin (not yet anyway), but I have enough respect for Aleksey as a developer that I kinda don't even need to hear it in order to trust that it's great and the quality of SRC is probably not the limiting factor.
