Song is REALLY cool. It is like an electronic jazz piece. VERY cool!!! I actually have listened to a good amount of jazz.

Thanks frank1985! I start almost every song with a piano patch. I noodle out a simple melody or a chord progression. Once I have 8–16 bars I usually put in a basic drum section. Then I start sound designing. I'll keep loading up synths and making patches till I have anywhere from 10–40+ voices going. One thing that I learned recently from an interview with Iglooghost is that you can never have enough bass voices. In the past I just used one or two, now I usually have 5–10. After all this I start adding more orchestral voices. I try to find a space for everything the best I can within the the original 8–16 bars. When everything starts sounding like a huge mess then I start arranging. I'll stretch my original drum loop out for three or for minutes so I have the beat to work with—it's all kind of organic, I don't really plan things out, most of the time I just work left to right 8 or so bars at a time. I don't repeat sections often, if the same melody gets reintroduced the the surrounding elements are usually different. After I have the entire melody and sound effects in place, then I go back and tweak the drum hits in every bar to compliment the melody best I can.frank1985 wrote: Sat Sep 10, 2022 9:03 am Lovely goopy, glitchy madness - I always love your stuff - the kind of production quality I aspire to. how do you even go about arranging something like this?
Since I try and find space for all the voices when everything is playing(admittedly sometime I have to turn some off if it gets too crazy) it's usually pretty easy to place the elements when only some are playing in the arrangement.
Mixing and writing is kind of the same thing for me. I do both simultaneously. I did a course on Lynda.com many years ago from Bobby Owsinski that helped me with my mixing tremendously(hopefully he would agree

eassae,
Sounds like you can play piano very well. Pretty wild man! Interesting combination of classic and modern elements and perhaps 20th century music? Audio quality is quite good. Some parts are more melodic than others. The piano at the end is great!

My playing is actually pretty mediocre. I have to fix the midi of any performance I do a ton.
In terms of influence, I don't think of any specific artists when I'm writing, but my musical tastes are very eclectic and they definitely span multiple centuries. Dmitri Shostakovich is one of my favorites composers though.
Thanks for listening and commenting.
