If Lego put out a build it midi controller I would probably buy it just for the novelty. it was a suggestion from a mental health team, that kind of got out of hand, so i needed a different team to deal with addiction

I just had a very quick surf around - will look at some more vids, but this is almost the first one I lighted upon.
Fuckin' christ on a bike...talk about underwhelming. And this is an official TE ad. I'm sure it can do more but at least show us some nice sound or something. And whoever presented it - sounded like one of those 70s scifi film robots spaced out on barbiturates.
I'm going to see if I can find some proper demos of some of their analogue stuff. Second impressions are worse than my first impressions.

Hmmm next up. Confirms everything that it looks like - tiny - even tinier than it looks. Shit knobs, no markers, FFS it runs ONLY on batteries. I guess maybe if you specifically want something portable then these fit the bill. And sounds like it can make proper noises. But no use making good noises if it's unusable IMO.

Struggling to find any demos that actually show the sound in detail. But all of them seem to be deeply skeptical about the actual synths. This vid...the only pro he could come up with for its form was "it's yellow"

Strangely, I see the point of the OP1. A whole DAW and very portable and looks like it actually can make some decent sounds. BUT for the price...again deeply questionable. I could buy a low end laptop and have a far more usable portable DAW. Cult - seems to be their only modus operandi. There's always someone gullible enough to throw away their cash.

Ok found some vids that do show it can make some decent sound - one was playing around with some very nice cross mod/ analogue FM type stuff that was interesting.
But pricewise in NZ it appears to be pretty well exactly the same as a Behringer ARP2600. I mean, yeah it's got the sequencer (which apparently is strictly only 1/16 and rigid - i.e. not that useable considering it's supposed to be modular) and a 2600 doesn't have the sequencer. But at least a 2600 has midi FFS. And more VCOs. And more of everything. Similar kind of price to what you could get with other proper modular....errr modules. Which is exactly what TE modular400 isn't.
I won't be wasting any more time on TE gear. Not even in my solar system, never mind my sphere of interest.

The OP-1 is fun and you can't fault people for wanting to have fun. They sample off the radio antenna and delight in their found sound masterpieces, all without having to turn on the spreadsheet analysis boxes that they stare at all day in their day jobs (I might well be talking about myself, btw).

It seems very popular, and has many features. I was thinking about buying one when it was selling for $850 new, IIRC, but then TE raised the price to $1300 (hence my crack about the current price being $3,000).
