This mic has a super low self-noise FWIW. It is on my radar.Zed01 wrote: Thu Aug 11, 2022 1:32 pm Lewitt LCT 440 Pure + blankets or acoustic pannels around, or open that closed (walk -in?) and make a little space for the mic and vocalist and sing from there![]()

I used both the AT2020 and the SM58 when I started out recording and they are both wonderful mics and built very well especially at that price point. I still maintain the best sub $100 vocal mic I've ever used is an MXL 990 so keep a look out for one of those next time your in the market but I've gotten some great vocal takes with the AT2020 too. Also, I second "mixguy2" that the Lewitt 440 Pure is vocal gold for its price.

Appreciate the nod, but to be fair I have no clue how good of a mic it is, just that it has a really low self-noise spec.jjpscott01 wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 12:51 am I second "mixguy2" that the Lewitt 440 Pure is vocal gold for its price.

Oh haha... My fault I'd assumed you were speaking from experience. Either way, I can verify its a really great sounding vocal mic and for just over $200 its a steal.mixyguy2 wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 1:12 amAppreciate the nod, but to be fair I have no clue how good of a mic it is, just that it has a really low self-noise spec.jjpscott01 wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 12:51 am I second "mixguy2" that the Lewitt 440 Pure is vocal gold for its price.I suspect it is a fine mic, but can't say.

Personally I would go with the 58, in fact I went with the 57 for multi-purpose which is basically the same... I bought the at2020 and returned the next day, didn't like how it handles higher frequencies.

SM57 is the workhorse of any studio so good choice. Even high end studios will have a couple of these lying around since they can do so many things and are built to take a beating.
