Oh, we’re already there.

Subscriptions make me feel icky so this isn't for me.

I do spend way more than $240/yr on UVI stuff though, so I'm conflicted in that sense but subscriptions are a line in the sand for me, personally.

I guess if you had a project you were working on and wanted access to a bunch of their stuff for a couple of months then this would be handy.

Nope

This doesn’t even make sense for pro studios. Pro studios buy gear for a reason. It makes more sense to own them. The price is predictable as you already paid it to own them. And even if you no longer wanted to use it you can resell them and recoup some costs. This is just a cash grab by lazy devs who want residual income for not doing anything. After all, you’re not guaranteed updates even if you subscribe. If you buy perpetual licenses the cost is predictable. Nothing. If you subscribe you will always owe something and own nothing. F that.

Here’s an example: fxpansion. I owned perpetual licenses and wasn’t satisfied by their shit support. I sold them and got money back. And I can guarantee you I spent less buying them than even the cheapest subscription price I’ve seen from any dev.

Does anyone actually do that? You need their entire catalog for a couple months only? It’s obvious this deal is strictly for suckers.

Post

it's for companies who write shit off come tax time

Bye bye UVI. Gave them a lot of money but the switch to sub model made me sad and I will not support anymore.

Unless they offer subscriber only content, previous perpetual users lose nothing.
If they offer Falcon2 Pro for subscribers, I would cry :hihi:

By the way,
System requirement says 285GB of free disk space.
How long does it take to download them all?
I own WorldSuite 2. It took pretty long for me.
IIRC it was less than 10Mbps while my connection scores 700 - 800Mbps in Google Speed Test

I do this for my digital design work, which I do commercially. I only pay for the tools I need when I need them via subscriptions. This is because I dont use them otherwise then for client work. For my music, which is my personal passion, I want access to my tools at all times, hence I would never use a subscription.

But... I think the subscription is in addtion to perpertual licenses. I have no issue with a company offering a sub along-side perpertual licenses (WITH NO NFR). Why is offering a sub along with perp licenses a bad thing? Subs are a better option for certain customers.

I was wondering if they are still offering perp licenses, well thats not a bad thing tbh.

As long as they don't "cripple" their perpetual licenses to make subscription more tempting, I really don't care. For example if Falcon 3 is somehow worse update for us owners than Falcon 2 (which was free).

But to be honest that price is way too high. 15€ would be more sensible.

I left Reason because the subscription stuff was really annoying for the long time customers. Don't mess with the suite owners.

Right, as long as the software we bought already is still updated I don't care. This subscription isn't for me.

Subscription is just another way to experience the UVI portfolio.
We still support perpetual licence and there are no reason to remove it.

Subscription fit some people but not everyone and we understand that.

This will be the case and I think we have already proven that we do it carefully.
The free Falcon updates are a good hint at this IMHO.
