Just message people. You don't need to ask permission. If someone doesn't want to be messaged then they wouldn't have that option available.
Though I'll echo what was suggested in your other thread: It's better when more people can read so a discussion can be started - posting openly on the forum would be your best option. Do read your manuals first though.
