To be honest, I am hesitant to make specific recommendations. Everyone has their own idea of sounds good and works well. I do electronic music (links in my sig). Although FF is great stuff, its very clean and precise. They are great when you want that. But if you want grungy vide you have to look elsewhere. An extreme example of that would be Kush/SlyFi. There are so many options out there... you best bet it so try demos and/or pick up some singles on sale or use from various devs to determine for yourself what would work best.OrionXYX wrote: Sat Aug 27, 2022 3:38 am Thank you so much for the reply. So you are saying that getting a Fabfilter bundle to help with the overall mix, and then get some sort of analog plugin(s) that would help add some flavor/texture would be a good idea? What genre of music do you usually mix, and what is your personal favorite sort of mixing plugin/hardware that you use? Thanks again.

@Vurt
Can be read as that or ‘here’ meaning KVR, which is why I sought clarity

Yeah it also depends what's imoprtant to you, a huge choice of different plugins, workflow, sometimes also gui or policy matters.
DMG and Softube have also some popular and good plugins, but prices are pretty high
Plugin Alliance have shown a very good policy and mindset lately, was very surprised about PA putting down a marker and taking a stand

First of all thank you for sharing your experience with FF.vitocorleone123 wrote: Sat Aug 27, 2022 3:53 pm Fabfilter has some great plugins, but also several that are just.... old and outdated, surpassed by many others. They'll get the job done, but you're also paying more than they're worth (comparatively), even in a bundle.
I already have some Fabfilter plugins, but I very much like experimenting, so I’m very curious which ones you find to be too outdated and which of their substitutes had surpassed them.

@vurt - thx, you got it.
@ramseysounds - my network (includes project/commercial studios as well as individual artist rigs) has been great for sorting out what's worth keeping, which includes cost, sonic quality and overhead (cpu hit, authorization policies, upgrades, bug fixes, etc.) we pay for all of our software and for us there are better alternatives to Waves (coz WUP/Waveshell), IK and UAD which is what I meant by 'blacklisted'. UAD might get a second chance with Spark once they're on Windows but had a card die on me and another obsoleted with no upgrade offer = too expensive. And despite being the "pro" standard, we also ditched PT along with a lot of the Macs given how often major OS upgrades break a lot of plugins. we do find iPads useful though, just our experience.

Yeah, I've blacklisted IK too, because I don't like getting tons of really well designed analog-modeled plugins for dirt cheap on promo.

Sonnox, Fabfilter, Voxengo, PSP for me and then some one off's from other companies like Leapwing, Airwindows, Siraudio, Goodhertz, etc. if there's something specific that I'm missing.

I built myself a Voxengo portfolio and am very happy with it.
I have all Tokyo Dawn plugins, too and use them frequently. They also cover most mixing needs.
And for creative purposes, you cannot go wrong with the free Melda bundle.
If you like playing around with vintage stuff, I suggest getting Arturia FX Collection 2 for about 60 bucks 2nd hand.
... just realizing I have too much stuff.

Tokyo Dawn, a few Melda plugins including MdynamicEQ and Mspectraldynamics, and for most duties the kilohearts stuff via snapheap and multipass.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.
