I doubt that the material and production costs are that high. People always forget the really expensive stuff, marketing and the whole infrastructure for production and shipping. Not to forget the programming, design and what not. Material and production costs are really just a fraction of the whole.

Let's be honest, none of us here really know what they have to price their plugin to make it worthwhile. If they would sell on the iOS app market, 20 € might be enough. Judging by the competition, 199 € might be a competitive price. I don't know. The amount of sales will tell them. Reverbs have never been very inexpensive. At least not those from the "big names".

There's an option to enter a redemption code. I can't recall if there was an option to register the hardware when I owned it, but if there is, maybe Strymon will be issuing redemption codes for a discounted price?

I owned the hardware pedal. Very nice but no way is the software version worth $199. That is a real reach. You could buy all 4 Valhalla reverb plugins (and also pick up the free SuperMassive) for $1 more than that one reverb costs.

200 dollars with no intro price seems a bit high in the current marketplace. Established premium brands like UAD and Softube are targeting 100-150 dollars as an intro/sales price now. Even Relab have a small version of their Lexicon that's like 30 dollars on sale.

If this was aimed at post or mastering, I think it might work. But with products aimed primarily at musicians and producers, this is probably just outside most people's budgets. If this had a 30-40% off intro sale @ 120-130 dollars, I'd be thinking about it. But we'll see. I bet there'll be a sale within the next year.

Yeah I dunno, I never registered it with them. Never saw any option and I own 4 or 5 of their
products. Anyway, I doubt they will offer any discount heh.

Still, I think the NightSky and StarLab would be good candidates for plugins, since I don't have
those and don't really want to buy them. $200 is probably more than I would be willing to spend
on reverb plugins at any rate.

There's a Joey Sturgis Tones plugin called Sky Box that might be worth investigating if you have a hankering for these kind of sounds but would prefer not to lay out this kind of money (I can't comment on it because I've never tried it).

Likewise, I've never used the hw but heard good things. I'll have a proper listen later, might even demo it. But TBH not spending NZ$300 on a sw reverb. Once upon a time that would be OK, not now. Sale...yeah, likely interested.

It's definitely expensive. But I'm glad Strymon is making plugins. Maybe they'll have a sale. Who knows? I have a Blue Sky, Timeline, Ola, and Flint v2...their algorithms are generally good to excellent. My hunch is that compared to some native plugins though, they may not hold up quite so well, or be on par and be a different flavor. For instance, their Spring reverbs are ok, but not the best. I don't think I'd prefer the Timeline over ValhallaDelay if both were ITB, but the Ola chorus would be welcome. The Big Sky plate isn't a super-realistic plate, but it does sound damn good.

Welcome Strymon!

I can't help but wonder if the difficulty in obtaining ARM chips and cost of them helped lead to this development. I regularly try to convince Sean Costello to make Valhalla stomp boxes, but the chip shortage is apparently a reason as to why he doesn't want to jump in to that just now.

For those who have the hardware, which other software reverbs have a similar character?

Not that I'd want to propose some alternatives, just wondering. I only know the Strymon reverbs from Youtube videos, and, they always sounded nice to me.

There's a 7 day demo. ;)

But it's hard to compare to other ITB reverbs. It's kind of like ValhallaVintageVerb in that there are multiple modes coverings things from Rooms, to Halls, to a Nonlinear verb. But soundwise, I think the Strymon stuff is less colorful (think more like Eventide or Exponential). But then Strymon has a Spring algorithm, and Shimmer, and some more ambient verbs. They're kind of their own thing IMO.

When I had the pedal, some of the algorithms reminded me of Eventide Blackhole, Valhalla Shimmer, and Valhalla SuperMassive

Damn...Sweetwater sells this. $34 bucks a month for a few months doesn't sound terrible to pay it off. No! You don't need this! Wait at least!

I rather save that for the day they might have a sale, and I'm really interested in buying it. ;)

You both say that it's similar to some Eventide reverbs, which I would confirm as far as I can tell from the demos I've heard. Of course, like synth, they all sound different, so, no reverb will sound exactly the same, but, I guess it's remotely in the same sonic direction. Which is good, because, me likey.

Hard pass at that price.

Omgomg but yes, grabbing will be about 100. (a little late` penalty lol)
