Awesome. Live electronics is fun. Transitions are tricky sometimes with live modular synthesis. It really adds a thrill.

Yeah, that's the thing. Transitioning between sounds/sequences in modular land requires a lot of planning and there is a lot that can go wrong. For live sets, I try to keep things simple and focused. I rely on switches and other routing tools to allow me make pretty dramatic changes without actually repatching. u-he's Cvilization is really instrumental for making variations and moving from one sequence to another.

Indeed, i did the same, i built lots selector switches (for modulation, signal path, even blank banana connectors), crossfade VCAs, and anything else i could use to make the transitions faster. I also did what many probably do and brought along other gadgets to fill spaces, including using a computer to loop and furthur twist things. Having redundant equipment counts (Bones made a post about keyboard players in the past with their big banks of keyboards, often just for different patches. Rick Wakeman, the example he mentioned iirc, used four Minimoogs. In my modulars i would try to make each row a "piece" or at least keep all the signal chain for each piece in the same row, modulators? Well, they seem to get into everywhere and go everywhere.

The last time I was performing live, I was using a much larger setup, including 2 7U 104HP eurorack cases, the Octatrack/A4, a computer and some other things. I decided that was way too complex and there were too many things that could go wrong. I considered using my Buchla system as part of this set but I don't have a suitable case, so I just pre-recorded some clips, which you can hear toward the end.
It's funny to think that synths became preset machines, in part to make it easier for performing musicians to have more than one sound without re-patching and now that we've swung back around to maximum flexibility with little recall, I'm looking for ways to create "presets".

One thing that has made things a lot easier is having these cases patched in a way that I can just open the lids, and everything is more or less ready to go. One snake connects the modular to the Elektron boxes and another connects the modular and Elekton stuff to the mixer. It would be pretty easy to expand this setup. I have plenty more channels on the mixer and I'm certainly not using the OT or A4 to their fullest... but I still need to regain my muscle memory when it comes to performing.
