Does anyone know how to set tap tempo on a Mattel Synsonics?

Press the "bass" button to turn on the bass drum. Tap BOTH the "faster" and "slower" buttons simultaneously at the desired tempo for a little while. When you stop, the drum machine should be at the tempo you were tapping.

Why not just use an app on a phone?

Because I need to get away from the screen while I'm practicing, playing and coming up with ideas. I have finally realized that I can't be very creative when the phone or computer are in front of me. It's just too distracting.
