I don't know about you but I tend to entirely focus both the 808 and 909 on two or three kit pieces in general, not just for effect routing.Daru925 wrote: Tue Oct 24, 2023 6:26 pm The routings, i use them to focus on two kit pieces usually, and everything has its own channel outside anyway, so no biggie.

I like d16 in general but does anyone really have any issues making 808 sounds these days without a dedicated emulation? Even for purists, the signal generators in the 808 are simple to recreate with most synthesis tools.
I suppose I may not be as into the sequencing side of these old machines as others is that part of the appeal? I'm genuinely curious. I hope the update is cool and I'll check out the set once they have the full x0x line up to V2.

I have 2 decades of messing with synths, and I would find this hard
-and then it would have a flavor other than 808 entirely
I have these d16 x0x s, just don't seem to find time to use these among others
They are nice imo
I wonder what I want in here

You'd be surprised how easy they are to recreate if you look at how they were achieved with circuitry (all the 808 circuits are out in the wild if you want to check them out). Those same concepts allow for tons of flexibility outside if just "emulation" as well. I enjoy playing with drum synths immensely and I like d16's gear just fine. I'm just less into recreations of old gear than I could be. I mostly go for samples if I want the exact sound of a particular drum machine. It's just my personal preference. It's nice to see these plugins being updated anyway.

translating an electrical circuit,
to say a digital modular even
-that's quite skilled imo
my electronics is basic,
I imagine a lot of peeps is also
for drum synthesis I would be using pitch and amp envs mostly
I have the Nepheton sampled on my hd,
hang on and I'll up it here today

If you are at all Interested, you should make a couple filters, distortions and oscillators by hand. You don't have to make them anything more than a couple knobs and a button to trigger things. It's more simple than you'd think and super fun to sample. It turns out that lots of the old gear is very simply designed and lots of the "sound" that is so sought after turns out to be (mostly) a small amount of distortion at each stage of signal processing and in feedback paths (for instance the 808 kick is just a "twin t" filter circuit that's tuned to the edge of self oscillation and pinged with a pulse at each trigger. The feedback path and vca envelope add all the sought after overtones via saturation in transistors and op amps.
Anyway. This stuff is all to the good and the more options the better. I just want more general drum synths especially from talented developers.

Yeah, I’m reallly hoping for a Punchbox 2 as it could do with one. PB is the best kick drum plugin IMOsl1200mk2 wrote: Wed Oct 25, 2023 12:43 am Glad to see it's not going to be a year wait or something. Very much looking forward to this v2 as well. Hopefully Punchbox gets a redo next.

Punchbox 2 is already in the works, no worries. But first comes Nephetonjimbog wrote: Wed Nov 01, 2023 7:29 pmYeah, I’m reallly hoping for a Punchbox 2 as it could do with one. Who cares. Maybe they're just excited about it. I know I am.
