Elektron Analog 4 direct line vs. Overbridge

I see several people here mentioning latency not being a problem with overbridge. I don't get it. Even with the smallest settings in the overbridge config, Reaper shows more than 2800 (!!!) samples of latency. Is there any way to get it much smaller?
For contrast, I run my RME Babyface at 64 sample buffers so latency is sub 4ms total when using the normal inputs instead of overbridge.
.. and if you can't notice 2800 samples of latency at 48kHz then I don't know what to say.. lucky you guys?
This is on Mac btw, so maybe you guys are running windows?

when I use overbridge as a VST in Ableton I don't feel I have latency issues, but I might check better..bmanic wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 12:13 pm I see several people here mentioning latency not being a problem with overbridge. I guess latency just isn't something some people notice. I mean, I immediately noticed my MPC Live has huge latency and confirmed that it has over 15ms of it.. sigh. Oh well.. I guess that's what happens when you are used to only a few milliseconds for most things.
Mind you, I'm playing the Analog Four as a synth module. So basically just playing it with a MIDI keyboard. Of course the latency would be of absolutely no issue if I just ran the sequencer.

Latency and high CPU usage is par for the course with Overbridge on all settings (on both mac and pc), don't trust anyone saying there's no latency. Only use it if you need per channel outputs for devices with single stereo out like Digitakt and Digitone.

I haven't tried routing MIDI to an Elektron box through Overbridge but I'm surprised to hear that it adds so much latency. Wow! The only one of my Elektron boxes to which I send MIDI is my Octatrack but it doesn't have Overbridge.
When I use Overbridge to send audio through my Analog Heat or my A4, the latency is relative to the buffer size set in Control Panel. Can't remember what I have it set to but it seems as though latency compensation covers that.
With all of that said, the way I work is likely very different from the way other folks are doing things. There are probably lots of things I don't notice which would be deal-breakers for others.

Yeah it's only really an issue if you play your Elektron instrument live while listening through overbridge. If you only use the sequencer and put down triggers, 5 vs 20ms won't make a difference.
It's not really an issue for me either as I can use the Analog Four main outputs while playing and then if I ever do sequence it and want each track on it's own outputs then I can do that when bouncing down/rendering the project.

Yeah, I guess that’s the difference. I always monitor through the main outputs and mostly use OB for bouncing down.

after a few years I finally ABed Overbridge and analog outs (on my Rytm mk2) and I must confess it was (all) my imagination and bad gain staging (and as someone said the different feeling about using "real knobs).
Overbridge works so well with the last update and I'm using it flawlessly with my Rytm mk2, and its so cool I can use all the different tracks without filling up my audio inputs. Latency seems quite reasonable and MIDI clock control via Ableton works surprisingly well. The prob is that if I use the individual tracks insert I must give up the compressor and effects, which is a pity..
