there DO seem to be some devon ... but none are free AFAICS

Exactly. Even the non-free ones looked like they didn't go to MOV either. Maybe Vegas Video does it? Premiere didn't even look like it did MOV either.

youre right - would be a 2 stage (and dead lossy) process ...

.swf >>> .avi / .mpeg / whatever >>> .mov

quicktime pro handles Flash 5 formats & exports as .mov, but it's $30 to register it..

I once saw a beautiful Flash movie about space and the Hubble telescope. I couldn't save the movie and then play it back.

So instead I downloaded the SWF file, and the page it was on.
I rewrote the page, and now it plays fine, locally from my drive.

i'm fairly sure i can save swf as avi in swishmax if that's any use, it'd still need conversion to mov though

Post

q-time also handles .avi import..

claire :D

is there any way you can contact them and ask you to send a .mov file of it? There is an option in flash to export as quicktime .mov - that would be the most simple way.

If not, if someone has successfully downloaded the file, I have quicktime pro and can do the conversion. Send it to mweeks at endmusik.com :D

Claire, I have Macromedia StudioMX here...I've not tried doing this but i *think* I might be able to export out as a Quicktime MOV from it. PM me and I'll see what I can do. :)

Har, I'll PM you the link too. I think she said she's now gone for the 'evening'.

ok, I tried my damndest in both quicktime pro, as well as in Flash. Flash will open the file but there's no audio, and quicktime won't parse it out :(

anyone else have any ideas?

That's odd, never had any problems converting *.swf to *.mov before.
Maybe there's some scripting that prevents this?

I think what you're gonna need to do is save & open the page in an html editor so you can expand the contents first..then grab the file once it's isolated from the page code.

It's been awhile, so I forget how I used to do it.

Post

Import the .swf into a blank Flash document.
Export as Quicktime.

or

Import the .swf into Adobe After Effects.
Export as Quicktime.

As long as the .swf file was not created with import protection, that is.

I could do this on Monday, no problem.
