Why buy a licence for 7 when you know there's a chance new features will be sub only or cost extra.

Perpetual is dead, lol

The core application functions will be the same, it's simply a different way to entice users to buy their products which in the end benefits the development of Studio One as a whole. It's really no different from what they have been doing since 2015 with the release of version 3.0 with the Presence Editor for example and other plugins that you would have needed to buy. A few of which were provided free in fact, a few years down the road.

Technically, they are not stealing anything but they are dangling carrots for you, but personally, no amount of carrots will push me over to a subscription-based product. It's why I bought Photoshop CS6 outright back in 2013 before it went subscription.

Ask yourself, if there were no subscription models, where would those carrots go?

You are never told in advance about where the carrots will pop up, so therefore you won't have any expectations as to when they will pop up should there have been no subscription.

Be a clever rabbit and don't give Presonus any more money.

Yeah, it's not like they were the only carrot-dealers in town....

The subscription model gives you all PreSonus software products for a monthly fee.

The perpetual license model gives you individual software products for life, each for a one-time fee.

PreSonus sells multiple products that must be purchased separately. You don’t get the entire catalogue just for buying Studio One. Perhaps people have become confused because a Studio One+ subscription includes more than just Studio One? That’s why it has “plus” in the name.

When did this become hard for some people to comprehend?

No, it just sounds like you guys are using the wrong DAW. You should be using Bitwig. Studio One is meant for tracking live musicians.

Studio One is in the Pro Tools/Nuendo/Sequoia category, not the Ableton/Bitwig/Fruity Loops category.

No, Studio One is for anyone in whatever way they wish to use it, therefor there is no wrong DAW.

Usually there point releases are pretty weak . There point 5 releases usually have more interesting stuff . I guess point 6 this time who knows . I kinda see where Bones likes the Artist versions and doesn't fool with the plus subscription or pro versions . I just built a NEW PC and I'm trying to decide what host to use I have S1v5 license but haven't installed it yet . I may give Reaper a go .

That's not how Studio One Pro started off and not why people bought into the program and company in the first place. If you want to change the rules mid-game and expect people to go along with the greed, that's on them. People have invested a lot of time and money into a company that wants to rethink the way you open your wallet. You have Fender to thank for continuing the idea of perpetual payments, what a twist to the story that's unfolding before your eyes. Let's see how that goes for them in the future, I see signs of Propellerhead in the rearview mirror.

Post

I don’t know anything about how Propellerheads run their business. But I do know how PreSonus runs theirs. I have used Studio One since version 1.0. I have purchased all of the upgrades and add-ons that I want. Also Notion. There is no PreSonus Software that you cannot purchase a perpetual license for. Not all Studio One add-ons are free, and that has always been the case. The only difference from then and now is that PreSonus has given people a second way to get their software. In addition to the usual perpetual license route.

You are seeing things that simply are not there.
