Samplitude Pro X9?

No, I'm pretty sure there's no grace-period right now. As soon as there is, they'll acccounce/advertize it accordingly.
If you're coming from Reaper you're in for a treat either way though. Overall Samplitude looks, feels and works quite similar (I think this is where Reaper got a lot of ideas from), but I think is a lot more elegant, streamlined and frankly - imo - outright professional,
as it is similarly flexible and powerful but without the "roll-your-own" mentality you have to subscribe to when using Reaper. And while both have features the other doesn't, I prefer Samplitude's feature-set (e.g. mixer-snapshots, revolver-tracks, Comparisonics).

Hey there, I noticed in another thread you mentioned you maintain a license for Nuendo. Now I'm not a Nuendo user, but I do have a (very) old Cubase license I could upgrade. Obviously they aren't the same, but given the similarities, I was wondering how you felt in using Cubendo Vs Samplitude and what might be their current strengths and weaknesses and what kind of projects you like them for. I'm basically weighing Cubase against the Samplitude Suite/Spectralayers upgrade.jens wrote: Tue Sep 17, 2024 5:28 pm No, I'm pretty sure there's no grace-period right now. Well, I made up my mind: I got both.
The Samplitude Suite was the cheapest path to Spectralayers Pro 11. I won't be using Samplitude or SoundForge until the Magix Insolvency issues are resolved. Samplitude needs to phone home once a month to remain usable. No response? No DAW.
I'm actually extremely irritated with Magix, because if they had actually spent time developing the products they had, rather than haphazardly buying software IPs and hoping mud would stick to the wall, I believe Samplitude would be a contender for most desirable DAW on the market. But sadly that isn't what happened. And I'm not going to risk getting locked out of my projects because of the incompetence of Magix. I view this suite as buying Spectralayers 50% with a free bundle of software I won't be installing (which is a shame, because despite the warts from negligence, Samplitude is a great DAW).
As I said, I also got Cubase. Going forward, Cubase will be my main DAW for musical composition, coupled with Dorico. That will free me up to go all in on customizing Reaper for sound design, foley, game audio, etc, rather than fighting with a thousand scripts to make Reaper a do-everything DAW. If I get around to setting up a Linux laptop for travel, Reaper of course will get the spotlight for that.

You can ask for a P2-serial number which does not need to phone home.KBSoundSmith wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 12:16 am Samplitude needs to phone home once a month to remain usable. No response? No DAW.
- upgrading to ProX8 they helped me with that
- but it was just samp, not the suite, if that is different
- looking in my products page, I have both a P2 and P3 serial for ProX8
I did this before activating any serial, and it worked at least.
The serial starting with P3 needs to phone home once a month.

KBSoundSmith, sorry for not coming around to reply to your question - it would have been a lengthy answer and I'm not sure I'd even have come close to helping you to make a decision.
Having said that: Spectralayers was for me also the main reason to upgrade (from X3) to X8 - but since then X8 has really been growing on me. It's an impressively mature and - if I may say so - professional DAW.
But yes, I just read up on the licensing/ copy protection and it is as you say - tbh I never really noticed and it doesn't bother me in the least either. I can however see how that might be irritating if one considers the insolvency as a threat to their existence, which personally (as a fellow compatriot of theirs) I don't.

By the way: I have high hopes that X9 will finally be announced tomorrow.

Hey no problem, it's an impossibly broad question, but I figured if there were any burning issues, they might pop up. Plus you owe nothing to a stranger on the internet.jens wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 6:25 pm KBSoundSmith, sorry for not coming around to reply to your question - it would have been a lengthy answer and I'm not sure I'd even have come close to helping you to make a decision.

As for Samplitude, if the insolvency issues can be resolved in a way that restores confidence, I'd be happy integrating Samplitude back into my workflow. I'd probably compose in Dorico/Cubase, then use Samplitude for mixing. But for the moment, I am a bit too hesitant to do that. That said, I'll still keep an eye on their updates to see what they're up to. We'll hear about X9 soon, I suppose.

I'll keep that in mind. Something to think about, for sure.lfm wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 3:41 amYou can ask for a P2-serial number which does not need to phone home.KBSoundSmith wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 12:16 am Samplitude needs to phone home once a month to remain usable. No response? No DAW.

Hey, jens -- are you still up? It's already almost 3 AM on the 30th over there and still no news about X9. Maybe just waiting to have their morning coffee first?jens wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 6:27 pm By the way: I have high hopes that X9 will finally be announced tomorrow.

Unfortunately we will have to wait a further full five weeks... ack! They just just extended the sale period until Novemver 3rd.havran wrote: Mon Sep 30, 2024 12:57 amHey, jens -- are you still up? Still on the bright side that means they really take their time for whatever they're cooking so chances are it'll be quite the menue. (April/May is their normal date for a full version release.)

For the next two weeks Humble Bundle has a $25 "Music Creators Bundle" that includes Samplitude Pro X7 -- which I imagine could be the basis for an upgrade discount to Pro X9 for people who would prefer a perpertual license instead of the 365 subscription.
(As for me, I have a sub for Pro X8 Suite that goes until the end of February, and am looking forward to whatever new features whose complexity has led to a delay of X9.

One expire date nov 3 on ProX8 and now a new one dec 8th going from 50% discount to 62%?
- So still no promises of a grace period to ProX9.
This does not look so good, I think?
I put a support ticket oct 16th and still no reply.

It doesn't seem to look good indeed, but that's just our guts, I think. If they were really desperate for cash they'd release X9 in whatever state it currently is. i guess they instead just really take their time because it's such an important update for them.

For the most part I'm with you on that.jens wrote: Mon Nov 04, 2024 11:20 am We have just about the best car ever - it was made by a company that fought for survival. They put their everything into engineering it.
Some decisions though made by devs are just strange.
- the field for cursor position and range start is always combined.
- even custom fields does not allow Start of range in a separate field
As soon as you move cursor that is shown in the field, not even moving start will tell you where it is?
I saw no other daw do that, they all have start and end in separate fields and always there. Move start and you see where it is in numbers.
There is room for 5 fields, why not a separate for Range Start....

Just to make sure: I was really talking about our family car - it was meant as an example of how the pressure of a looming bankcrupcy can sometimes push the employes to really give their best...
Tbh you lost me there... I am not quite sure what you mean.
