It already has some unique features and there will be many more in the future, if everything goes well. Also, easy to forget: Playtime 2 is part of Helgobox, which includes ReaLearn. There's nothing comparable to ReaLearn in Live or Bitwig, and Playtime 2 integrates with it.
Thanks for taking the time to answer. What you have done here is really impressive. I respect the effort of making this do what you want a lot.

I‘m so looking forward to testing v2 when I find the time. Thanks helgoboss for your great work!

Playtime 2 has launched 8) Merry Christmas!

Post

I just started writing about this on the product page and thought I'd move my words (and excitement) to this thread . . .

Reaper is an amazing DAW with unparalleled depth, power, and customizability, but it's missing a big feature that other major workstations now have . . . . a clip-based, non-linear matrix workflow like Ableton's Session View, Bigwig's Clip Launcher, Logic Pro's Live Loops, etc. Alas!!!! Playtime 2 enabled Reaper users to use such a feature, and it works flawlessly and seamlessly integrates into Reapers interface. I beta tested Playtime v1 and looked forward to v2. It's here! Let other DAWs beware . . . Reaper is now even more attractive and robust. I haven't dove deep enough into Playtime 2 to give a proper review yet, but I wanted to share my initial thoughts and excitement for this release. It should literally be a "game changer" for users who want the option to work with clips inside of Reaper. Well, time to noodle around. Bravo to helgoboss, who is extremely responsive and listens to user requests. Thanks for developing and releasing this fine software.

Great. Should be able to choose install path though - seems there is no such option.

No offline installation? Can only be installed via Reapack?

You can install it with the Helgobox installer. I don't remember anymore but somehow I am pretty sure I installed it (when it was in beta) without Reapack.

Besides that, I prefer Reapack all day. It is one of the ugliest installers out there that is sure but you know it is the most efficient and simple thing to do once you realize it. And Syncing updates is a breeze.

I tried that but there is a message saying installer not available for my system. It could be because i tried DLing on an android.

My DAW system is offline so Reapack is a no go unfortunately.

Offline - understood then.

Btw now when you said it I remember briefly I had the same issues as you. I mean something was weird during the installation. I can not recall what. But I do recall there were some tiny issues and then it all started working most definitely without Repack.

Good luck with the installation. I recommend Playtime 2. I will purchase it next week. It is really nice for experimenting and quite honestly I was amazed at the quality of the app, look, and function of it.

For a single-person project, it really looks like a dedicated DAW company did it. It took me some time to understand how it works and after that it really is fantastic. The difference it is making with the "clip session" paradigm is that it is like a ghostly companion that plays and follows you in your music creation.

Ok good. Ill give it another try on the DL using an online computer (as opposed to the android).

Cheers. What is attractive is something i had been requesting *years* ago and that's the ability to play multiple clips on the same track. I would also *love* to have exclusive BPMs and effects *per clip*. Imagine that!

Well if i can get the demo up and running and I like the workflow I'd be more than happy to buy it. It'll add to the monster that is Reaper.

SIDE NOTE REQUEST: if the developer is listening - drag n drop regions onto Playtime to add clips. That's probably a stretch of a request but I'm throwing it in there.
So maybe mouse drag onto a "slot"?

@helgoboss :
I keep trying to drag new samples to cells from Finder to overwrite the sample/s I've placed on a cell. I create the samples in other apps and also trigger the cells from other apps (C74 Max) Most of them are variations used to shuffle random-exhaustively through game sound effects, like vocalizations or footsteps. I like to replace audio in the cells fairly frequently. If there's a drag-drop function that blasts out the old sample and replaces it with new in a tutorial or how-to somewhere, I missed it, point me that direction -- or if it's not a feature yet, what do you think about adding it?

thanks!
