Nice. What I see from the different models people have been submitted is that this one comes from the electric piano family, usually with semi weighted keys, starting in the 1000 USD range. Then the "synth" based keyboards like the EW425, with 3 level actions keys, starting in the USD 400 to 500 range. Am I correct?BBFG# wrote: Sun Aug 25, 2024 7:35 pm Numa Compact:

Where do the workstations fit into that picture? I am confused.

I responded to your original post wants. As far as a workstation, I would ask what you needed from a workstation that wasn't asked in your OP?vinnie2k wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2024 5:41 amNice. I don't know the market for keyboards so I don't know which category of keyboards my requirements point to. I was under the impression that workstations focus on MIDI output. Am I wrong?

workstations tend to be performance-oriented standalone keyboards with a inbuilt general-purpose broad-palette sound engine, often sample-based but including synthesis. aimed at players and composers.

ie the kind of thing you'd expect someone in a band to play.

Ok.
I see some models with synthesis, effects and mixing capabilities, which in my (old) book tend to point towards producers rather than performers, the Kurzweils and Nords of the world being closer to the tool of choice for the latter.
Makes sense?

Nope. And Kurzweils are categorised as either pianos or workstations. https://kurzweil.com/products/
But its up to you if you want to limit your options on the basis of a misconception, no skin off our noses.

Hold on there chief.
I want to understand recommendations, hence my questions. Why attack me?
Please correct my misconceptions: how are workstations different than other keyboards?

what 'attack' ?
You mean, as per the guide I posted a link to, with the big 'what is a workstation' section in it that explains how they're different? Please correct my misconceptions: how are workstations different than other keyboards?
