Freecords, the free distributor - anyone tried this?

Well that was quite embarassing - thank you for pointing all of this out. These are absolutely draconian! We've had them since way back when we didn't have our own contracts and were distributing through Sonosuite (which we don't recommend), so these were essentially their T&C's.

We've just updated our terms and conditions to reflect our values and we hope you'll find that they are as liberating as they can possibly be, complete with "no AI training clause":

based on this last post - it seems likely they'd also sell your material to AI companies to train their systems as well. i guess reading the T&C before signing a legal contract is still a good idea even in the 21st century...

Sorry about any confusion caused. As mentioned in our previous post, we've just gotten rid of all that ambiguous stuff and added the "no AI training clause".

I had no idea SiriusXM and Pandora took in music from unsigned artists.
Even if that's the case I figure there has got to be some kind of screening?
Can you see some amateur acoustic artist recording a one take on their phone actually getting played on Sirius?

Well, an amateur acoustic artist recording on their phone would most likely not pass our moderation for distribution in the first place, but then platforms like Pandora or Meta Music (Instagram and Facebook) have their own moderation teams in place who acknowledge the receipt of our (and other companies' ) distributions and then decide whether they pass their respective quality requirements - this is part of their T&C's.

If your music is good enough by their moderators' standards - by all means, it will be played on Pandora and we'll get it there for free.

I don't see that charging $3 a month is free otherwise I would release something trough them to get the $1 and the perfomance rights exc... I just released through landr and I am getting sample disks and software as part of the license. I can do performance splits that are alot more favorable to the other artist since there is no $3 rule there although if I stop the subscription it goes to 85%

Hi dexrow! Free is free. We do not charge anyone for anything. As we've mentioned, the $3 subscription is absolutely voluntary and doesn't affect core functionality in any way - we view this as more of a donation and we sometimes give these subscription out to our users for free. When we do, it's just a click-and-done activation link, which doesn't require and additional information such as credit card info, no auto-renew or anything - it's an honest gift.

This information is relevant to integrity because you say upfront, "Freecords is a pioneering hybrid music platform designed by musicians for musicians." Your musician-persona is intended to give users confidence in the integrity of your business (cfr Derek Sivers/ CDBaby). That is why I asked the question.

Looks like I am on pandora and everything for landr. I like the idea of getting paid to advertise all those streaming services and have some advertising space about them. I didn't look into it that far though.

You only get paid if your songs get streamed. The only way your songs will get streamed is through marketing.
Since you have no marketing you're shit out of luck.

The timestamps can be confusing becuase your emplyee decided to jump back to the middle of the thread to try to further try to spin the look of it more if you read from top to bottom skipping his middle section them coming back to that you'll have a better understanding of the conversat arc. The time stamps are there they just don't go from top to bottom any more after he wanted to continue his manipulation of the thread.

I recently had an interaction with the COO of your company, and I feel it’s important to share my experience with you and others who may come across this thread. Unfortunately, it was one of the most unprofessional encounters I've ever had with a company, and it raised serious concerns about the way your brand is being represented.

As a user of this forum, I understand how these platforms work—and I hope you do too. It was clear that someone from your team, using *two separate accounts*, attempted to revive an old thread and manipulate the narrative around your company’s history. They denied the existence of a clause that was in fact shared publicly by you in this very forum. This kind of behavior isn’t just misleading—it undermines trust.

What’s worse is that I was personally attacked and called a liar simply for repeating information *you* had previously shared. This is not how a professional company should operate, and certainly not how a COO should behave in a public setting.

I wanted to give you the chance to review what’s happening before things escalate further—because if this turns into a legal matter, I don’t believe the company would fare well.

I strongly urge you to consider taking internal action: ideally, this includes removing the COO from their position and issuing a formal retraction of their statements. It's in your best interest to protect the credibility and future of your company.
