You can do this in Audacity but it's a PITA. I'd go for Reaper.

Customizing Reaper might be my best option with a double click link to External Audio Editor.osiris wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2024 1:12 pm You can do this in Audacity but it's a PITA. I'd go for Reaper.

Why would you use an external editor if you have Reaper? Are you that bored?

Best to get an older version second hand or in a bundle when on sale. Saves some money, and most of the time you don't need the latest features.

I much prefer editing in TwistedWave, Amadeus Pro, Acon Digital Acoustica, and RX11. I really wish those editors would add a few features that would allow me to track, edit, and send out stems.VOODOO U wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2024 5:25 pmWhy would you use an external editor if you have Reaper? Dear SOUND FORGE Pro Mac Community, we regret to inform you that we have decided to discontinue further development of SOUND FORGE Pro Mac. We have since removed the product from our range. Already purchased software can of course still be used without restrictions. We thank you for your feedback and your loyalty for many years. Best regards, your MAGIX editorial team.

Exactly. Just use reaper and ignore the bloat you don't need. That's the beauty of what's a big mess of a DAW. Behind all that complex web, you can customise it to be basic and easy.tommyzai wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2024 5:29 pm In my extensive, massive DAW exploration . . . I usually find my way back to Reaper. So many things to like once it's customized.
If you really need to get in the zone go find a theme to make it look pretty. You'd be surprised what eye candy does.

This is why Garage Band is one of the most popular DAW's for songwriters. It's streamlined and easy, they only need to hit record.tommyzai wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2024 7:41 pm I'm not interested in FX or anything other than tracking and editing. All the DAWs can do this, of course, but they come with bloat . . . tons of features I will not use.

GarageBand doesn't work for me . . . never secure about the input recording levels, need to export to normalize tracks, and audio editing is not there. I want a lot of control over audio, and not too much else. That's why I gravitate towards editors, but . . . tracking is an issue with most of them. I still can't get Melodyne to record properly.

I'm leaning towards Reaper streamlined with link to my favorite two editors. Then send out stems . . . my mix and master days ended with tinnitus and eye surgeries.VOODOO U wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2024 5:45 pmExactly. Just use reaper and ignore the bloat you don't need. Studio One has a quick key for Normalize. You're almost exactly describing Luna *except* that it lacks Normalize.tommyzai wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2024 5:57 pm GarageBand doesn't work for me . . . never secure about the input recording levels, need to export to normalize tracks, and audio editing is not there.
