Thanks for posting this. But Github makes my head spin. I can't find an the ".vst3" file or any sort of installer anywhere, is there one or do you need to compile the code? And if I need to compile it are there instructions as to how to do that? I'm always confused AF whenever I need to download something from Github, why wouldn't they just post the files you need to install on the main page?concealed identity wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2024 10:23 pm This is a great free Inflator clone. Supposedly it nulls with Inflator. I don't have the tools or time to test that, but I can say it sounds great:

No worries, I've been downloading things from GitHub for years and I still end up searching for a few minutes for how to download every time hahaseangm wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 3:01 pmThanks for posting this. If you look on the right side of the page, there is the heading "Releases" with the latest version listed. Click on that and it will bring you to a page with Mac or Win downloads in .zip format- no compiling or anything required.

Why do you say it's horrible ?TIMT wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:54 pm Reading the description and looking at the parameters, it does look like a clone of Inflator, but i'm not touching anymore HorNet plugins with a barge pole. That new framework of theirs is horrible ..

GUI doesn't keep its size in most DAW's i've tried and will shrink to an unusable size if you so much as glance at the resizable handlebar at the bottom. plugin seems to crash for no reason, some of them wont even load as VST3 (the 80ies verb thing if i recall correctly and Cassette). other strange GUI issues like parameters becoming unusable when dragged with a mouse. it all started happening around the time they started standardising the look of their plugins to i assume a common framework. anyways, i've tried enough of the new ones and HorNet plugins are not really in the must have category for me anyways. no harm at the end of the day. the plugins i do like and use of theirs that haven't had the framework update still work pretty wellhotmitts wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 4:12 pmWhy do you say it's horrible ?TIMT wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:54 pm Reading the description and looking at the parameters, it does look like a clone of Inflator, but i'm not touching anymore HorNet plugins with a barge pole. Inflator goes on sale for like 30 bucks all the time. I have it, and it's still a good clipper/waveshaper, but the prestige of sonnox, Harrison, etc. has become somewhat diluted now that there are dozens of developers just as good as them and with more realistic base pricing. Seems a bit of a strange choice to make a budget friendly clone of a plugin so long in the tooth that it sells at bargain basement prices now just like everything else.
I have nothing against Inflator, nor Hornet, but Boz Big Clipper, KClip, newfangled saturate, Saturn etc all do the same thing with more features and flexibility.

Did they update to JUCE 8 or were they just inspired by it?TIMT wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 11:33 amGUI doesn't keep its size in most DAW's i've tried and will shrink to an unusable size if you so much as glance at the resizable handlebar at the bottom. plugin seems to crash for no reason, some of them wont even load as VST3 (the 80ies verb thing if i recall correctly and Cassette). other strange GUI issues like parameters becoming unusable when dragged with a mouse. it all started happening around the time they started standardising the look of their plugins to i assume a common framework. anyways, i've tried enough of the new ones and HorNet plugins are not really in the must have category for me anyways. no harm at the end of the day. the plugins i do like and use of theirs that haven't had the framework update still work pretty wellhotmitts wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 4:12 pmWhy do you say it's horrible ?TIMT wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:54 pm Reading the description and looking at the parameters, it does look like a clone of Inflator, but i'm not touching anymore HorNet plugins with a barge pole. Haven't experienced this myself, their software center/installer fails to launch on WINE. I'll always be critical of nonstandard installers for plugins though. An archive containing a .vst3 will always be my preferred installer
I like how Inflator sounds. It's a simple 2nd harmonic & somewhat unusual waveshaper, it's hard not to like that when you want to make something sound bigger. Thing is, you can emulate it with free plugins or get a very close sound with apShaper but without iLok and superior anti-aliasing. I don't think there's inherently anything wrong with selling a "simple" algorithm for a relatively steep price, but a few factors do make me recommend against actually purchasing it. Some its fault, some just due to the passage of time.Razzia wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 11:02 pm Inflator goes on sale for like 30 bucks all the time. I second that experience: though the sound of Hornet Plugins is top the user experience is always a poker game. will it crash or will it not?TIMT wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 11:33 amGUI doesn't keep its size in most DAW's i've tried and will shrink to an unusable size if you so much as glance at the resizable handlebar at the bottom. plugin seems to crash for no reason, some of them wont even load as VST3 (the 80ies verb thing if i recall correctly and Cassette). other strange GUI issues like parameters becoming unusable when dragged with a mouse. it all started happening around the time they started standardising the look of their plugins to i assume a common framework. anyways, i've tried enough of the new ones and HorNet plugins are not really in the must have category for me anyways. no harm at the end of the day. the plugins i do like and use of theirs that haven't had the framework update still work pretty wellhotmitts wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 4:12 pmWhy do you say it's horrible ?TIMT wrote: Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:54 pm Reading the description and looking at the parameters, it does look like a clone of Inflator, but i'm not touching anymore HorNet plugins with a barge pole.
