Some of the keys on my Edirol PCR-50 are dying!

I had the Keystation Pro-88 and was so dissapointed I researched really well/ I did not need 88 keys anyway,

You were disappointed with the Pro-88?
I have tried it for a real short while at a shop and it seemed heavenly, if not out of reach pricewise. May I ask what about it that you disliked?

I don't know if peppy and I had the same problem, but for myself, there was nothing really wrong with the Pro-88 (although the keys didn't feel ALL that great). When I bought it and brought it home I found it was just... way too big. Way more than I needed. Excessive, almost obscene... too many keys, too many knobs, too bulky, too much money. So now I have a PCR-80

Which I love and have had no problems with yet . But if I do; I will be able to send it back to Edirol and get repaired for no extra charge even if the warranty is expired, because they are aware of the problem? I feel sorry for those of you who are having these issues I would be heart-broken myself to lose my PCR. But hey, I haven't seen the 80 mentioned at all in this thread; maybe it doesn't have the same problem.

I also have the PCR-80, had it for less than 2 months. Hope the keys don't crap out. Was scary reading this thread, good thing that Edirol is replacing defective stuff

Well mine was bought about 2 years ago, so hopefully they have addressed the problem in newer models
...it still had the original controller board in it where the CC values jump in 3-4 increments. I needed to send in in for a fix anyway

Same problem with the PCR 50 here Just out of warranty period + expensive to return for fixing x fit of temper = chucking it in the dustbin. I had three dead keys in the end. Cleaned it, shouted at it, talked nicely to it, still three dead keys.

What a load of crap it was

I had the same problem with my D-50 syntheziser 20 yers ago and I was really suprised to find out that the PCR-keyboards uses exactely the same technique. This issue cannot be news to Roland.

This phenomena I'd call "consumer electronics". Not manufactured for eternity Alas, it has to be consumed so after the warranty you'd have to buy something again. Hate that...[/i]

my pcr-50 is a little bit shitty, too. Keys playing causes some noise .. or squeekin' sounds. (Only in the higher area/notes) Also you have to first play the whole key-area to prepare it for playing. That's because the keys are difficult to switch down after not playing for a while.

I bought the pcr 50 because everyone said it's keys are cool, similar to other "good" edirols. (PC 160 a or so..)

Now i know: They aren't. Shit quality.

im also not happy with my PCR-30 - there's just no sound coming out - i tried all faders and knobs.
But no sound can be heard!?
I do not use it with the computer - just as a normal Keyboard-Synth - or do i have to connect it for some reason with the computer?

Are you guys talking about the same product? I've had my PCR-30 for 2 years, without a problem... Mapped to Reason and Live, and Logic... Hmmm?

I've had mine for a year and half with no problems either! I will say that I made sure I received one of the newer ones when I purchased. The 'first batch' models were prone to malfunction and the knobs only sent controller data in increments of 3. These problems were fixed later on. When I bought mine I called Edirol and they told me check to serial # to make sure I got new batch.

I like the functionality of the PCR-50, wish they playabilty was 'bit' better (more response to velocity etc..). None of the other models in the price range offer decent playabilty though, so you won't do better anywhere else. I still think though for the price these companies could do better since you can buy a used piece of kit with decent keys for the same price, but I need my knobs!

i got pcr-30 and it is lovely for me...

i just had her for about 5 months so far, but everything with it is cool.... am thinking of getting another controller so I can get mad and set all the dials and sliders up for a manic live set!!

would buy another pcr-30 as i am happy with it, but dont want the same keyboard twice!!

Ah crap, haven´t noticed it before but my PCR-50 seems to be of the 'first batch' since the controllers do indeed send controller data in increments of 3. I bought it second hand from some guy and now I´m starting to understand why he sold it!

Rick11114, you wouldn´t happen to remember what serial # should indicate that the unit is of a newer "bugfixed" generation?
