Do we?
Name three.

And what could be easier than specifying the physical dimensions of a room, if your goal is to emulate a real physical space?

There were a lot more of these back in the day... but then developers steered away from that concept because it wasn't really very popular...

See above - I think you're part of the minority here...

Out of curiosity, what classic hardware reverbs let you specify the physical dimensions of a room? I've only used software reverbs and would be interested in learning about those.

PSP Chamber is a freeware reverb plug-in that adds depth and dimension to your audio. Like classic hardware reverbs, it’s designed to emulate the acoustics of physical spaces of various sizes and shapes. The Chamber algorithm is carefully crafted to produce rapidly developing, dense reverberations with a smooth and natural decay. It’s a simple-to-use, great-sounding effect that’s a great go-to option for many tracking and mixing applications.

PSP Chamber is available for free for anyone with an active PSPaudioware account. To get access to the plug-in simply open (or log-in to) your account at our user area. No ilok required.

Just tried the free chamber and very pleased with it. It sounds pristine on percussion unlike more vintage algorithms but not overly diffused and blurry like some newer ones. I wish more reverbs used low/high shelves like this since filtering can easily sound over-processed. The CPU usage is low as well, some reverbs can eat up a shocking amount of CPU at higher sample rates.
A simple UI but with the right amount of configuration is something I think reverb plugins struggle with the most, but this one nails it, and with a good sound to boot.

Exactly how I see it as well.
And add the shockingly quick insert time including opening the gui when one is used to the slow opening of the Relab reverbs (as good as they sound) .

Relab's Lexicon emulation does indeed have a long loading time due to the inefficient way they implemented the UI, but more pressing for me is that many of these reverbs have poor ergonomics/UI operation. Submenus for everything on a tiny screen with giant sliders for no good reason simply because the hardware did it. And then "modern" reverbs try and cram as many features into a single space as possible, and if not that, then as many algorithms as possible (EasyVerb falls prey to this)
I really just want 1-3 good sounding algorithms with basic equalization & configuration options, with low CPU usage.

You make a point. It is precisely for owners of the original hardware
About the loading time. Many vsti have heavy loading time like UAD, Softube, Relab, IK Multimedia.
I believe it's more about the framework

That doesn't make it better.

I don’t think so. I think it’s to provide the experience of using the original hardware to who ever wants it. People who never had access to the original hardware are likely more interested in that than people who did.

Anyone find it kind of unstable? It reliably crashes for me within a few 10s of seconds if I play around with the controls, especially the predelay.. on mac

I'm not on Mac, but it's rock solid on Win 11

Post

Rocksolid on windows 10 in Cubase and Live Professor. In patchwork I have to turn off the track undo, but that's more a patchwork thing.

Post

Rock solid on M1. SO7.
