I'm getting a maxed out Mac Mini M4 Pro so that's gonna eat a big chunk of that. I think if I find myself wanting to try MPE I'll check out the cheap-o Exquis. It's not gonna be anywhere as smooth as Osmose but it could be fun. This is the first time in a long time I've had a substantial chunk of change to play with. I'm gonna slow it down and really consider what would be best for me.

Anyway, congrats on the Osmose!
Do you really need a maxed out Mac Mini?
Although I use much more Linux, my Macbook Air M1 (16 GB/512) is doing just fine with everything audio related, and I expect it to keep that way for the foreseeable future. A maxed out Mac Mini seems to be a waste of money for the purpose, and you probably could save a lot of money going a step-down... (?)

I didn't knew the Exquis (thanks), looks cool and fun as hell too, although not necessary intuitive if you are already used to a launchpad/push/keyboard like system.

Anyway, don't overlook other contenders in the MPE space:

Osmose seems really great, if I was a good keys player (and could afford it) I would be definitively looking at it. Looks fun and more in line with analog expressiveness in terms of hand moves like traditional instruments.

I would love to try one, one of this day's

Well, I'm currently on a nearly maxed out 2012 Mac Pro and it lasted me about 13 years before current gen technology is forcing me to upgrade. So, I have to decide if I want to max out and hopefully squeeze more years out of it or if I want to save some money but maybe need to upgrade sooner. I'll probably go somewhere in between and upgrade just some components from base spec like maybe 48gb of memory instead of 64. I've been putting this decision off because I'm not sure which way to go plus just the thought of reinstalling and reactivating all my plugins gives me a headache.

On topic: I'd be all over the 1349.00 refurb Osmose if I was a proper keys player

The Exquis looks great. I would have snapped one of those up a few years ago. I really like the hexagonal layout for playing chords. That said, watching videos I can tell that it shares the property that all pad controllers seem to share, namely, that the actual range of motion is very narrow. I'm not saying that this is good or bad, per se, I'm saying that it doesn't feel the same as playing on a keyboard with a long travel. I find it easier to keep the textural motion under pressure control smoother on the Osmose vs a pad controller. Could be my lack of skill with the instrument.

His questionings of why oddly shows me that even the osmose is too limited to answer the call of a future or beyond type of instrument...

"Why would these instruments be relative to our culture species?" Probably for the same reason of believing other lifeforms across the universe are predominantly humanoid.

I'm interested in getting one of these at some point. Does the USB cable transmit MIDI and Audio or do I need the audio to connect via audio interface? I have a RME Fireface so that's not a problem but USB audio would be easier to setup in some respects.
