We've got shitloads of art up on various walls. One wall is a big empty space pretty well 3.5m x 3.5m, so we made that into the main "art" wall. Some prints, some originals, a few water colours done from artistic friends, a couple of Aussie abo finger painting type things, landscape originals from a local Tutukaka artist, some almost cartoony oils from a Wellington artist when we lived there. Various other stuff dotted around the house - one wall has a series of lizards, descending in size chasing each other with the last one a small cricket made of copper wire. Big lizard was from a Wellington student expo sale, one from a sculptor near the old World of Wearable Art at Nelson, an etched chrome cutout (no idea where that came from), a cut glass one from Nelson again, a paua shell/chrome onefrom the Coromandel art studios.
Got 2 water colours of Paris landscapes done by those pavement artists from back in the 80s, some Italian wood marquetry, a matching set of carved piwakawaka (wagtails) in various poses of flight. Got one of those brown dots on brown background prints of Da Vinci self portrait on one of the toilet walls - it's weird cos it takes on the colour of whatever's around it. Despite it being brown, it looks blue because of the pale blue walls
. Got a shitload of wood carvings - always get something or other whenever we go to a new Pacific Island, so we've got Tangaroas from Rarotonga, Aitutaki etc, carved deity things from Vanuatu, Fiji, New Caledonia, Tonga. Haven't got anything Samoan yet - next on the list. Got a few carved olive wood things from Greece, a real ornate carved chair that wouldn't look out of place at a banqueting table - from a carver in Raglan when the missus lived there with some local artist oils of surfy dude stuff. I must dust off my set of coins some time and put them back up on the walls. Collected full set of coinage from anywhere I visited going back decades, so I have most of the pre-Euro coins from around Europe, and all over the place - I recently completed my Rarotonga set - always had most of them but couldn't get hold of one of their triangular 1dollar coins, but got one last time I went on holiday there.
I'll see if I can post some of them up
TBH I never really thought I was particularly into artwork, but when I look around - our house is full of a lot of genuine art. I forget how much we have. Don't have fancy furniture etc but do have fancy shit on the walls

I use a bunch of electric guitars on the walls in my cave to break up the flatitude.
They're gorgeous works of art all by themselves as a bonus.
back wall has around a dozen gibsons on it plus space for my rotating eight guitar stand.
Guitars on the side walls can be a bit tricky to grab due to amps/cabinets and synths being in the way...I do have to walk around sideways through some of it.
There's an electronic drum kit as well which I bought for my wife...it's kinda imploded and folded in on itself over the years.
Clever little thing!

Those mugshots... I know $30 can be a lot of money to some people, but for art it's on the cheap side. Try to get something custom framed. Even a simple hand made frame will cost a multiple of that.
In this case that is questionnable; pot calling kettle. Who is the rightful copyright owner? The police? Is it within their rights to do something else than what they originally were taken for How did the publisher obtain rights? Can I check that? The person portraiyed has certain rights as well btw.Do not copy

i'm not sure who own the rights to those mugshots
i noticed that some of those mugshotted are still living
hugh grant
pablo escobar
mick jagger
axel rose
paris hilton
puff daddy
powerful rich people with access to nasty lawyers
maybe mugshots are public domain?
maybe the mugshotted don't like what's happening
but can't do anything about it?
or maybe some of those mugshotted find the whole thing hilarious
and they make extra cash on something not reverseable
who knows?
that is more reason for buyers to want them?

There used to be big posters of most wanted people, think of RAF terrorists etc.
I'd make a big poster with all these musicians, with the watermarks and all. Big title: jailhouse rock. Or whatever, be creative. Within your living room anything goes. Subtitle: not for sale.

Pablo Escobar is very much dead, and I personally wouldn't have a poster of Sean Combs on my wall...harryupbabble wrote: Wed Jan 01, 2025 2:50 pm i'm not sure who own the rights to those mugshots

It's the moustaches and posh accents, though I suppose that's more a crime against society rather than humanity

I once drove home from Los Angeles on mushrooms. Every streetlight looked like Van Gogh's stars...and it never went away. 30 years later, I still see a strange halo effect around streetlights that wasn't there before that drive.harryupbabble wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 3:24 pm anyways, i myself have only one thing that i put on my wall
