This used to be a thing but with with the specs of most modern computers I'd be surprised if it made that much difference at all.

There was a day and age where you had to optimize the computer just to get things to run. For example, in the early 2000's a rather common tweak would be to take the computer off line. Background processes wreaked havoc, and would at times crash DAW applications.

Now days that's not so true. But this comes with a caveat.

If you buy a computer from a store, it's probably got an OS installed, and with it, a whole host of crap that the vendor loads on. Why? because they can. So to de-bloat this scenario, simply wipe the OS ssd clean, and install only the things needed.

I typically rebuild (wipe OS and install everything fresh) my computer every year or 2 just to get it refreshed with up to date everything. But even this is starting to become unnecessary

This is my de-bloat strategy

Edit: The other thing I do to optimize my computer is to shut off most things at startup. YMMV
