Am i getting too old?

The whole flat minimal UI thing is running its course. It was a fad that started around Windows 8, but its problem is that when you begin to remove information that informs the user as to the nature of the element and how to interact with it, you take something that's intuitive and make it something you need to learn. You don't have to go full photorealism, but there should be visual indications helping the user.

Of course, going full photorealistic can also be a problem. Amplitube is one of my favorite guitar amp simulators, but do we really need a giant empty graphic of a grill and logo? At least everything is pretty clear, though sometimes they can waste space and make things unclear, like the Echoleffe Tape Delay by Korneff audio, which sounds fantastic but is a way harder to figure out than it should be.

I have to say, though, I have a soft spot for some flashy UI stuff, like Lunacy's Beam, with its animations. Brings me back to the days of Kai's Power Tools Photoshop plugins. I miss Mondo 2000.
