Actually, after spending a night with it, I think my purchase may have been a little hasty.GusGranite wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 4:06 amPlease don’t say that…_al_ wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 10:59 pm Thought I had this covered with my Melda bundle, but after hearing it... bought![]()
Yeah, it has a nice sound to it, but I found it to be a bit of a one trick pony tbh (maybe a slight exaggeration).
Ended up not even using it on the two channels I wanted to try it on.
Just not quite enough controls to make it work in the way I wanted.
So either I would have to create automation lanes... or just load up a Melda.
Good purchase for those without Melda bundle though

Agreed that the stuff is top quality except the reverb. But as an example of irritating practises- despite saying I.m not going to buy again, I decided to grab the Waveshifter- love using it in Current so why not?. I had $41 of all access credits. To use this with the Waveshifter, I was not entitled to the intro price and ended up having to pay an extra $8. Small change but on principle, it sucks. It just feels like loyal customers aren't prioritised which is the surest way to make those customers not so loyal.Razzia wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 5:55 amI agree about the pricing inconsistencies, and doing a poor job to incentivize/reward early adopters and people who own the rest of their plugins, but they do offer good value. I find their plugins sound good and have good UX/ergonomics, and a lot of devs could easily charge 50-75% more for Fuse Compressor, Morph EQ, Cluster Delay and Flex Chorus. And Waveshifter for that matter.swilow11 wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 5:20 amTheir pricing has just routinely been weird. Its too confusing and often seems like early adopters end up losing out. Afaik, they dont really discount depending on what you already own. I probably won't buy products from them again.Razzia wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 3:39 am Gonna get it but I've consistently found it kind of annoying that upgrading your all-plugins bundle is more expensive than the intro price
But any way. It's such a great plugin for the music I make so not complaining about that.

Wow that is pretty lame about the non-eligibility. I was wondering about that,
weak…
I decided to try the all access since I was
still 200-ish from the full bundle (on sale).
Now I see the catch.

I simply lower my expectations and live with less stress. Lots of companies don't incentivise existing customers. Many just have regular sales and that's it. It's not a given that any company would do more.swilow11 wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:36 pm [snip]

After trying Wave Shifter I can say its similar to Tonstrum's FRQ Shift. They have a bit of a different sound but within the same general idea. I think there's a Melda that will do this too but I cant recall the name.

While their policy will not stop me from buying or using their plugins, it does certainly cause me to re-evaluate how I will acquire them. Seems like my options would be to upgrade to the bundle for $200 or so during a sale, or get the same plugins via all access for $357 over about 24 mo...
For me the content part is of little interest, it's only about the plugins, for others maybe there is more incentive due to access to their extended content. *shrug
*Anyway, back to my original plan of buying them on sale. The all access thing is nice and handy,
but not particularly worth the extra money for me.

Well that does suck lol. Sorry to hearswilow11 wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:36 pmAgreed that the stuff is top quality except the reverb. I don't get it. If they wanted to nickel and dime customers they could have charged for the Current upgrade - or the Rift upgrade for that matter - but they didn't.
At the risk of repeating myself, it would bother me more if their plugins were more expensive (as a long time UAD customer, I have many criticisms of this sort) or less exceptional. High quality and low price makes me inclined to be charitable about some stuff that would otherwise raise complaints.

Yeah, fair enough.
And I can see both sides. It's not as if Paying for all access doesn't see the user adequately compensated- you literally get access to everything which is a great deal. It's the same with Kilohearts- you don't get to use your credits at sale pricing, and in fact the credit you get from MA is more proportionate to what you've spent. I think with MA, the bad blood of their aborted sub only launch soured things and, personally, I think I'm probably harsher on them than other developers as a result.
I just think that for users who adopted their ecosystem even when it was imploding around them, there should be some good faith understanding and appreciation shown. The opposite appears to happen.
MA should take note. Almost every time a new effect or whatever is introduced by them, these same issues come up. 50% of the discussion revolves around their weird pricing and business practises, the products end up being a sort of side issue.
Anyway, Waveshifter is really nice. I find myself just using the Angle Laser preset (I think that's the name, it's one of the first presets) and building from that. Great for glitch transitions and completely transforming a patch. Throw some distortion after it, bitcrushing for example, and it becomes super interesting. I was experimenting with literally a sawtooth sweep into Unfiltered Audio Silo bouncing then into Waveshifter. Mainly noisy shit but bounced out 32 bars and have been busily snipping out awesome little glitches and organic bleepy noises. So good.

I decided to try this exact thing because it sounded like a cool idea. Avenger's Vintage LP filter sweep with the instability turned up into Silo and Wave Shifter in front of Lo Fi AF and some reverb. Lots of cool stuff from cinematic to glitchy just by toying with some settings.

I am a somewhat reluctant Minimal Audio customer. As they do create some great plugins. However, some of their business practices have been/are ill-thought out and leave much to be desired.
I feel like their discount offers are made under duress as a tacked-on afterthought. As opposed to being well thought out and tailored towards rewarding customer loyalty. Which is probably why they never really make much sense. I envisage their bean-counter seething during their sales and intro discounts, counting down the days until they pull the rug and attempt switching back to a subscription-only model, to really start milking everybody once again.
I own their 'All Software' bundle (sans Wave Shifter) and as some have already mentioned, the discount for upgrading it with Wave Shaper is $34, which is more than their concurrently run introductory discount for the stand alone plugin at $29, available to everyone.
So I guess, I'll just purchase Wave Shifter as standalone plugin at that intro price also available to newcomers, rather than upgrading my All Software bundle as a (somewhat confused) existing loyal/reluctant customer.
It's just one example of how Minimal Audio's business model, seems not very tailored or focused primarily upon rewarding existing customers, first and foremost. Or else, it would likely factor stuff like this in beforehand, yet they never do.
Minimal Audio ... make it make (more) sense, could you?

Glad I never looked into that All Software plan they run. I just get them when they're on sale if I'm interested in them.

The account credits also don't take into account sale prices unfortunately. Rift is on for $90, down from $129. When I applied my 60 credits, it went to 69 and removed the sale price.

Maybe the $34 is permanent not only the intro price ..?
