Choosing a right laptop

I've had good luck with Zenbooks and upper end Dells.
I run Linux though, so I can't say much about Windows lately
Currently, I have a Dell Inspiron 7415 (circa ~2021), with a Ryzen 7 5700U. I could get something newer, but this one hasn't died yet, is powerful for audio and the battery lasts, so ... I would look at Dell again for my next laptop possibly.

I just buy old XP laptops on EBAY... Got a HP dv4000 for ten bucks 5 years ago runs Reason 2.5 like a dream...

i bought the cheapest laptop i could find from Wal-Mart. (HP STREAM) And while I cannot recommend it (lack of expandability, low storage capacity, small screen), I have been able to compose with it just fine. I think I spent something like 170 USD plus sales tax. it's rated as a lemon on YouTube and it's barely better than a chromebook, but i still get music done on it (MIDI, WAV mixing, VST3 & CLAP instruments, rendering to wavpack or WAV) just fine.

i only bring this up to highlight that music making doesn't necessarily require a powerful computer anymore.
I think i bought the computer about 1-2 years ago. I did upgrade the RAM from 4 to 16 GiB.
