Question: would the official website redirect customers to a non-legit (pirated/copied? ) website?

Hey, yeah, I've bought a bunch of stuff from Thomann. Music gear, mostly. Recently, I picked up a Harley Benton fretless bass. The bass itself was alright, but the pickups just weren't doing it for me.

The thing is, Thomann made the return process super easy. Like, completely free. They covered all the shipping costs, no questions asked. That kind of service is pretty rare, honestly.

So, yeah, in my experience, Thomann's been really reliable. If you're wondering whether or not to buy from them, I'd say they're definitely a solid option.

I have had an issue with a device they sold but the manufacturer said it is a known issue and they are working on it. Not sure if I should exchange it for a different unit or not...

That has nothing to do with them (Thomann), though. They sell stuff from other manufacturers, and OP asked if they and their services are reliable. Not the stuff they sell. Moreover, they guarantee 30 days return no question asked.

Absolutely reliable, even when it comes to b-stock. I switch between Music Store in Cologne and Thomann, both are great, very nice people, outstanding service, no issues in the last 30 years.

Musical instrument store Bax Music bankrupt, union hopes for restart
Bax Music has been declared bankrupt by the court. The company filed for a moratorium on payments last week. Bax Music is one of the largest stores for musical instruments and equipment in Europe.

The company had been struggling with financial problems for some time. For example, it had a debt to the tax authorities as a result of the corona pandemic. A fire in a building in Goes two years ago is also said to have caused financial problems.

Bax Music was founded in 2003 by two brothers, Nathanael and Jochanan Bax. Due to a conflict with the other shareholders, Jochanan, the only board member, was dismissed at the beginning of this year.

The company had a plan for a restructuring process, but due to a "difference of opinion" between the shareholders, this was not implemented.

Last week, Jochanan Bax told the NOS that he wants to make a fresh start with the company in the event of bankruptcy.

'Worst employer'
The CNV union is also hoping for a restart, but without Jochanan. CNV negotiator Henry Stroek calls the former director "by far the worst employer I have encountered in recent years".

"He has led the company in a terrible way, unfortunately we have seen countless examples of that. That is why we are completely against him having a role here in the future."

According to Stroek, the works council and employees of Bax Music do not want that either. The union has informed the curator of the concerns.

"As a union, we are of course not in charge, but we hope that he will take this into account in the discussions with potential interested parties for the restart. These employees deserve a good employer and a healthy working environment", according to CNV.

The curator says that several parties have come forward for a restart. One of them is former director Jochanan Bax. It is not known how many interested parties there are. According to the curator, it will be decided in the coming days whether the webshop and stores can open again.

Bax Music employs around 300 people. In addition to the webshop, the company has six stores in the Netherlands and Belgium.

True, I once ordered an acoustic guitar at Thomann which did not come with a case. So I ordered a matching case and left instructions to put the guitar inside. The items still arrived separately.

I think people can say goodbye to that extended warranty. I bought some stuff from them over the years, as I live about a five minute drive from their main location. However, I have more orders from them gone wrong than right. I'm not surprised they went belly-up, as it was just a matter of time. Their logistics were a big mess, even when buying stuff in person in their shop.

Oh god... yeah. If I should say something negative about Thomann is that their support can be clueless. I once asked for advice on some mixers and they were basically just reading from spec sheets. I knew more than he did.
