To me photorealistic GUI's on plugins (what Acustica always is aiming for) does not make sense for operating it from a computer screen. In most cases it makes it less legible and harder on the eyes.Timfonie wrote: Mon Mar 24, 2025 8:46 pm Speaking about photorealism, this gets really close in a very good way.

I'm usually not a fan of skeuomorphic interfaces. It seems silly to try to mimic the physical world in a software UI. But this UI looks nice. Plus, it's a welcome change from all the modern "flat" UIs. I wouldn't have a problem using this one at all.Morty-C-137 wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 5:48 am To me photorealistic GUI's on plugins (what Acustica always is aiming for) does not make sense for operating it from a computer screen. Why put the preview behind a video service that requires an account login to view instead of just putting it on YouTube so everyone can see it?
I'll probably give it a try but their last synth was a bit janky with some nasty clicks and volume spikes.

Seems like an interesting synth

I am a huge fan of photorealistic GUIs. I grew up using hardware so something like this GUI feels comfortable and familiar. It is certainly much less harder on my eyes than a fuzzy GUI like ANA2 and more pleasing than something toy like such as the Valhalla GUIs. If I had my wish all plugins would have photorealistic GUIs. To each his own.Hyperbole wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 6:08 amI'm usually not a fan of skeuomorphic interfaces. Anyway on to the plugin itself, yes I love the GUI and the Osc architecture is intriguing so I'll be keeping an eye on its development.
It's going to have to blow me away sound wise because judging by the screenshot it is a fairly limited synth (4 Osc, single Filter, no Seq). Price and CPU demand will of course also play a factor.
Let's get our hands on the demo and we'll see how it goes....

They didn't even add proper parameter ranges to the Thing AU (only the VST3) and they've been working on a whole other synth? Sorry but putting off such an easy but important fix, why? They fixed the VST3 parameter ranges in a few days after feedback. Shows poor attention to detail and moving on before finishing something.

Huh? Why should we get excited about this backward-looking synth with uninteresting features? I can't join the gush of excitement here. Sorry.

To me, a photo realistic interface makes perfect sense because I went from hardware to software, so seeing photo realistic controls makes me feel at home. It's just the way my brain works.Morty-C-137 wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 5:48 am To me photorealistic GUI's on plugins (what Acustica always is aiming for) does not make sense for operating it from a computer screen. When I see "modern" interfaces, I just delete the demo and move on.
I am assuming and guessing that if I started my music adventures right fro the start with modern interfaces, I would not like photorealistic resemblances.
The best thing about this is that we all have choices we like.

There aren't many wavetable or waveform synths, hardware or software, with OTA filters.buffalo roam wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 5:08 pm Huh? Why should we get excited about this backward-looking synth with uninteresting features? I can't join the gush of excitement here. Sorry.

Where I draw the line is when GUI designers include silly fake scratches and dents on the UI to make it look more "real." That is so, so lame and pointless, IMO. If I want to look at an old, beat up synth front panel, I will look at my 40-year-old Sequential Pro One.Teksonik wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 2:02 pm I am a huge fan of photorealistic GUIs. That's Acustica Audio in a nutshell. It's how they operate, with everything.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 2:15 pm They didn't even add proper parameter ranges to the Thing AU (only the VST3) and they've been working on a whole other synth? I agree with you 100%. I hate it when developers "age" their plugins. It sets my OCD to screaming.Hyperbole wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 6:52 pm Where I draw the line is when GUI designers include silly fake scratches and dents on the UI to make it look more "real." I've got hardware I've owned since the 1980's that look like they just came out of the box so the idea that any unit would be treated so badly as to get scratches and dents just makes my skin crawl....

But, the faux scratches add dirt, grit, and character to the sound and make it more vintager-er.
