Many of them "can" do this. My serious question I want to understand, is "why" would you want to do this? Certainly not for archive purposes... What would you hope to achieve with using a monolithic format? IMHO, the only thing worse than a monolithic format, is an encrypted monolithic format. There is no future-proofing when using such a format. The most important resource a person has with sampling is the actual samples. How will you use your sampled instruments if your chosen sampler vendor goes out of business and you can't reauthorize your sampler? If you have your samples, you can move freely to a different sampler and not miss a beat. You do realize that you can archive (Zip) a format that uses a preset file and a folder, and the only difference between this and a monolithic format would be that you can still access your samples.

With Serum/Serum2 that embedded samples, I can use it with Reaper, load a sample in it and save the project and re-open that project either on my mac or on my Windows setup without having a missing sample and even without having to save the Serum preset. As Serum takes about 250 meg for each instance I though it was a bit overkill to use it as a quick/light sampler just to load a drum hit. I wanted to explore other options of sampler that could do the same.

Can you elaborate on your zip thing... Kontakt doesn't even show the .zip files in its browser... ?

I pictured in my mind that you were wanting a monolithic format so that it would be easier to share projects with collaborators. My thinking was that if that was the reason that you wanted a monolithic format, you could simply zip a non-monolithic preset and send the zipped archive to your collaborator. Your collaborator could then unzip the file and use the preset. I was not referring to samplers "reading" zipped presets. I hope this makes better sense.
