personally, i wish more software interacted like a good classic hardware drum machine. that'd be nice.

Good catch! I kept thinking something was missing.pekbro wrote: Thu Jun 05, 2025 9:42 amHmm, I can't help but notice that the Pulsar-23 is missing from your list there. Sold it?elxsound wrote: Thu Jun 05, 2025 5:00 am If you didn't use them, I might say maybe? But, I love drum machines and would have them all if I had the space.
Syntakt, TR-08, Model:Samples (boxed away), Pocket Operators, EMU SP-12 (in need of repairs, hopefully this month or next). I've had others but this is what I'm keeping in addition to software on desktop and mobile devices!
Looks like the price has gone down on those as well, interesting...
I don’t think I’ll sell it unless it becomes necessary, but also prices are way down, plus they released the screw version instead of custom pins that makes for a cheaper price.

Ahh ok, I would have been surprised if you hadelxsound wrote: Thu Jun 05, 2025 12:53 pmGood catch! wound up getting rid of it. Thx.
Yea, the prices are not bad for the new one imo.

Not bad at all, except they’re pushing the price on a new Rust edition.pekbro wrote: Thu Jun 05, 2025 3:23 pmAhh ok, I would have been surprised if you hadelxsound wrote: Thu Jun 05, 2025 12:53 pmGood catch! Looks like their Pulsar 23 Utilities received the screw treatment and that’s far more reasonable. That’s tempting.

I've got a few. I'm pretty particular about the drum sounds I use. I'm not a fan of 808 sounds but love 909, 606 and DR-55 sounds. More than those, I like flexible drum voices which can be modulated a lot. Since I'm pretty picky, number of drum devices that appeal to me is pretty low.
For drum synthesis, I'm really into the Soma Pulsar-23 and Ciat-Lonbarde Plumbutter2. I don't typically sequence these as much as I run them through effects, sample them and then load the samples into my Octatrack or Analog RYTM. In that vein, I'd really like to get a BugBrand DRM2.
I used to have a bunch of drum modules in eurorack but I didn't get as much from that set up as I had hoped, so I sold all of that stuff.
I have an MFB Tanzmaus, which is kinda inspired by 909 sounds but the sequencer is quite different. I've been using that a lot as part of my live setup.
I use acoustic drum samples and found sounds a lot more than most people realize. They get processed and modulated to the point where they are almost indistinguishable from synthesized sounds. Since I'm recording my own drum samples, I can kinda tailor the recording process to the results I'm looking for.
Yes, I am a drumaholic. 12 steps won't cut it, I need at least 16, lol.

I like the idea of drum machines, but I don't use my physical one. I have been using D16's Drumazon 2 a lot and that gives me the look of a drum machine without the added set-up hassle. Also, I like weird, heavily modified stuff so ITB is better for me.
But if perhaps SOMA will come out with a Pulsar-23 mk II that I end up buying or I will cave and buy the Teenage Engineering K.O. II that Unperson uses all the time.

I'd say, No, you are not. And thank god because I wouldn't want to hear about your 32 peice Miami sound machine drum kit and percussion monstrosity if you were.
Nothing wrong with drum machines. (But don't miss out on to things like making your own shakers from things from the kitchen, and other cool self recorded percussion)
