Maybe I'm confusing them. They were a bad recommendation regardless.

Try Arturia Tape MELLO-FI. Put it on an FX channel and send to it. Turn up the WOW to maybe 25% or 30%. Put something like Voxengo Sound Delay in front of Tape MELLO-FI on the FX channel and set it around 40 to 60 ms to add more separation.fisherKing wrote: Fri May 30, 2025 7:15 pm been doing comparisons:
ozone imager2 (eh). meldaproductions mdouble tracker (not bad) but reel ADT sounds cleaner overall. still looking!
EDIT: i run reel ADT with very simple settings (ie no lfo, very-slight drive on one side), and it's pretty great. the melda is good too, but actual 'phasier'. so will stick with reel ADT(unless something better comes along).
thx!

there's an easy-enough routing in logic (slight delay, slight pitch shift), but was looking for a hit-&-run method, and sticking with reel ADT for now. thanks tho!jamcat wrote: Sat May 31, 2025 7:45 amTry Arturia Tape MELLO-FI. There was one called "ADT" by Vacuum Sounds which is dope after. I think I still might have the installer for Mac and Windows, but both are older version (though the on Mac it still works and on Windows you might need a wrapper vst if your daw only supports vst 3)
It can be downloaded via Webarchive

i actually made a simple ADT preset in valhalla delay, and have used it. but reel adt gives me just enough variables to give a better sound (still, i can use either one, depending on the need).

You should be able to do it with delay. It's free. Most good delays will accomplish that sound. I've never used the waves version but all you need is a drivable delay with modulation. I like using delays for this because of the flexibility they add and there are interesting ways to go from double tracking to weirder places by automating some parameters. I'll often just use host delays and routing to achieve a doubled effect. Sound delay from voxengo is great and flexible too for short static delays. You can use it (sound delay) as an offset for another delay and tune the comb filtering sample by sample.

I tried a few and Proximity was the best, the others sounded too 'phasey' to meheyheycnv wrote: Fri May 30, 2025 3:09 pm The ADT setting in Proximity is my favorite adt. Be warned trying to install on new Macs. Its a pita getting it authorized.

Never could get a sound I cared for with Reel. Always was too phasey or comb filtered for my tastes.

not for me. on a silicon-mac, no rosetta; and not going install an abandoned plugin when there are current ones available. if it's that good, tho, too bad TDR doesn't maintain it; so it goes.hotmitts wrote: Sun Jun 01, 2025 12:38 pmI tried a few and Proximity was the best, the others sounded too 'phasey' to meheyheycnv wrote: Fri May 30, 2025 3:09 pm The ADT setting in Proximity is my favorite adt. No, I don?t think so.
At least in the case of Ampex I am pretty sure however that the Apollo version (which includes the delay section they have omitted for the native version) does it though. Perhaps that's what you meant?
Edit: Jamcat beat me to it.

No, they weren't automatically just because they wouldn't have met the OP's requirements.
This is a public forum after all and not everyone who might be interested in the topic has the same requirements.

Great recommendation. Back in the day their Poor Plate was one of the best reverb plugins by the way, free or otherwise.Starbright wrote: Sat May 31, 2025 3:37 pm There was one called "ADT" by Vacuum Sounds which is dope after. Yep. I meant to type "deelay", but I got autocorrected. Just figured I'd mention a free alternative. Sixth sample audio is the dev I think. It's a very nice plugin.fisherKing wrote: Sat May 31, 2025 8:17 pmpost right above yours, have done this with the valhalla delayAh_Dziz wrote: Sat May 31, 2025 7:38 pm You should be able to do it with delay.
